The Opportunity
Huntington Bank’s Legal Department plays a critical role in enabling responsible growth, supporting innovation, and ensuring regulatory compliance across all business lines.
We are seeking a seasoned lawyer to join our Legal Department. This role is central to Huntington’s strategy to lead in the evolving payments landscape, supporting innovation in deposit-taking, business-purpose lending, and emerging payment verticals. The successful candidate will bring deep subject matter expertise in payments law, regulatory frameworks, and commercial transactions, and will be a key player in a high-performing legal team.
Key Responsibilities
+ Strategic Legal Counsel: Provide legal guidance on product development, business initiatives, and special projects across a variety of business segments.
+ Complex Transactions: Partner with business, risk, compliance, and technology teams to structure sophisticated third-party transactions, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and information security standards.
+ Commercial Contracting: Draft, negotiate, and manage complex commercial agreements, including payment processing, cobrand partnerships, aggregation arrangements, and fintech collaborations.
+ Regulatory Engagement & Policy Advocacy: Represent Huntington in regulatory and policy forums, collaborating with industry bodies and internal public policy teams to influence change and ensure alignment.
+ Cross-Segment Support: Provide legal support across lines of business, ensuring consistency and scalability of legal frameworks.
Basic Qualifications:
+ J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to a state bar.
+ Minimum 10 years of legal experience in the financial sector, including law firm and/or in-house roles.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Knowledge of payment systems (ACH, card networks, RTP, blockchain), merchant acquiring, and customer payment experiences. Specifically, working knowledge of:
+ Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA) and Regulation E
+ UCC Articles 3, 4, 4A, and 12
+ Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) frameworks
+ Dodd-Frank Act Sections 1033 & 1071
+ Payment system rules (Visa, Mastercard, NACHA, and Zelle)
+ Experience drafting and negotiating agreements with both large and emerging payments providers.
+ Strong issue spotting, risk assessment, and problem-solving capabilities.
+ Autonomous yet communicative, with a collaborative mindset.
+ Curious and intellectually engaged with emerging technologies.
+ Skilled in navigating complex regulatory landscapes.
+ Passionate about customer experience and innovation.
+ Eager to grow within a vibrant legal team that possesses deep subject matter expertise.

Compensation Range:
$125,000-$255,000 annually
The compensation range represents the low and high end of the base compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. Colleagues in this position are also eligible to participate in an applicable incentive compensation plan. In addition, Huntington provides a variety of benefits to colleagues, including health insurance coverage, wellness program, life and disability insurance, retirement savings plan, paid leave programs, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
