    Summary The position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, House Office Buildings, Members’ Wellness Center. Responsible for administering programs in exercise, general nutrition, stress management, and other preventive health measures to Members of Congress. Provides activities to enhance the health, physical fitness and restorative needs of the Members, including Spinning, group strength programs, individual strength and development, etc. Responsibilities The tour of duty for this position is Monday - Thursday 11:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. with a Friday shift as early as 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (negotiable) to accommodate Congress. Duties include, but are not limited to: Develop personalized strategies for promoting and coaching health, fitness, and restorative self-care for Members of Congress. Administer exercise programs designed, on request, for individual Member’s specific needs. Conduct fitness screening for Members prior to their entrance into certain exercise programs. Plan individual and group exercise programs that build cardiovascular endurance, neuromuscular strength and balance, flexibility, and other aspects of functional capacity attuned to the diverse interest, needs, and skill level of the Members. Conduct health and physical fitness assessments prior to developing an individual exercise plan, as appropriate. Evaluate, as permitted by scope of certification, the degree of acute or chronic injury or medical condition in order to develop a first aid/treatment plan or medical referral. Lead exercises individually and in group settings. Teach exercising individuals' techniques in self-awareness, self-monitoring, and self-management of bodily functions like pulse rate, blood pressure, levels of exertion, and thresholds of discomfort. Instruct techniques of specialized group fitness activities. Develop educational and service programs promoting preventive health practices, health risks awareness, recreation, and the like for Members within the Wellness Center. Provide alternative programs in the event that current programs prove unsuccessful. Provide the latest evidence-based knowledge, skills, and practices in the fields of exercise physiology, physical fitness, and related specialty activity fields, as appropriate, and as permitted by scope of certification. Administer basic life support (i.e., CPR/CCR, AED) and first aid as is necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen. You must be able to pass a drug test. Your resume and question responses must demonstrate job-related elements. Must be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR/CCR) and skilled in the use of the Automatic Electronic Defibrillator (AED). Proof of certification must be provided if selected. AND: To be employed by the Architect of the Capitol in a paid position, an individual must meet one of the categories below: A citizen of the United States; A person who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence and is seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B); A person who is admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157 or is granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. 1158 and has filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible; A person who owes allegiance to the United States (nationals of American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Northern Mariana Islands, and nationals who meet other requirements described in 8 U.S.C. 1408); or A person who is currently an officer or employee of the Government of the United States.” Qualifications You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. GS-9: Applicants must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes: Developing activities for promoting and coaching health, fitness, and restorative self-care; Conducting basic exercise programs designed for individuals; and Conducting basic health screening prior to developing an individual exercise plan (i.e. conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and/or metabolic syndrome). GS-10 Applicants must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes: Planning individual and group exercise programs that build cardiovascular endurance, neuromuscular strength and balance, flexibility, and other aspects of functional capacity attuned to the diverse interest, needs, and skill level of individuals (i.e. cardiovascular and/or strength conditioning, mobility and/or balance); and Conducting intermediate level health and physical fitness screenings prior to developing an individual exercise plan. GS-11 Applicants must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes: Developing personalized strategies for promoting and coaching health, fitness, and restorative self-care for individuals; Conducting health and physical fitness assessments prior to developing an individual exercise plan; and Leading exercises individually and in group settings (i.e. yoga and/or pilates instruction, studio cycling classes and/or group strength classes). . Education There is no educational requirement for this position. A bachelor's degree (master’s preferred) in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Health Science, Physical Education, or related field is desired. Additional Information Welcome Veterans.
