    Job Summary

    Responsible for reviewing and approving equipment removal for maintenance on the AEP distribution system, stations, and sub-transmission as assigned; for coordination of these activities with the various departments of the Company involved; and notification to proper personnel regarding outages. Responsible for assisting in the supervision of personnel in carrying out the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the distribution system.

    What You'll Do:

    1) Promote and enforce the Company's Safety and Health programs.

     

    2) Be knowledgeable and adhere to written company and department policy and procedures.

     

    3) Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Company's Corporate Compliance Policy.

     

    4) Responsible for coordinating the operation of the distribution system, restoration of service, prearranged switching for construction and/or maintenance, and for the safe and efficient real time operation of the dispatching center.

     

    5) Verify the accuracy of switching orders for the removal and restoration of distribution lines and station equipment as assigned ensuring that all safety and departmental policies are adhered to.

     

    6) Prepare switching orders listing the steps and safety tagging to be carried out for removing equipment from service for maintenance; repair or construction; and ensuring the safety of the public, Company equipment, Company, and contract personnel.

     

    7) Assist in the supervision of employees and see that work is performed in accordance with established practices and procedures.

     

    8) Supervise the efficient restoration of service following emergency unplanned outages consistent with safe practices.

     

    9) Approve and coordinate facility outages, loadings, and operating voltage levels with appropriate personnel in the distribution and transmission organizations.

     

    10) Direct and assist in the preparation of logs and other records to provide a clear history of operational activities.

     

    11) Notify appropriate designated personnel of abnormal and emergency conditions.

     

    12) Provide training and guidance to dispatching and field employees.

     

    13) Organize dispatching efforts during restoration events.

     

    14) Function as a lead position used at management discretion based on the business need.

    What You'll Need:

    Education requirements are listed below: Associate's degree in electrical or electronic technology; Bachelor's degree in any field or equivalent education and/or experience.

     

    Work Experience requirement listed below: Minimum two years of experience as a Distribution Dispatch Coordinator.

    Other Requirements:

    Physical demand level is Sedentary

    1. Must maintain a high availability for call-out response.

    2. Must be able to work under pressure during periods of critical system conditions and deal with diverse situations simultaneously. Critical decisions must be made affecting reliability and priority of service to customers. Failure to issue correct instructions could affect personnel safety, welfare of the general public, equipment damage, loss of revenue, and adverse publicity.

    3. Must possess excellent organization skills.

    4. Must possess excellent communication skills.

    5. Must be able to resolve conflict and build team consensus.

    6. Ability to work with others for the development of the organization unit.

    7. Ability to lead dispatching shifts of multiple dispatchers in all aspects of switching, trouble dispatching, and system outage restoration activities.

    8. Assumes leadership responsibility for following safety rules, regulations, and business standards.

    Compensation Grade:

    Compensation Range:

    $96,110.00 - $124,940.00

     

    The Physical Demand Level for this job is: S – Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
