+ This position works 4, 10-hour shifts from 7am-5:30pm from Sun-Wed with Thur, Fri, and Saturday off. Schedule may vary depending on the needs of the Department.

About the Nutrition Services department:
The Nutrition Services Department exists to provide quality food service and medical nutrition therapy to more than 1600 clients in a mental health care facility and the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC). With over 100 employees, the department strives, within available resources, to provide adequate nutrition to clients based on medical, spiritual, ethnic, cultural, and mental health needs.
Description of Job
Inventory and Supply Management
+ Manages inbound and outbound logistics, ensuring orders are accurately packed and dispatched for 6 satellite kitchens within CMHHIP and 3 CDOC facilities using pallets and/or a cart delivery system.
+ Accepts delivery of food, beverages, and related supplies from approved vendors; resolves discrepancies if goods received do not match goods delivered; refuses items that are spoiled/damaged.
+ Note and report any damaged, incorrect, or missing items to a supervisor
+ Maintains efficient inventory storage by utilizing proper storage areas, monitoring refrigerator, freezer, cool rooms, and dry storage temperatures, following product rotation procedures such as the FIFO (First In First Out) method, and inspecting for pilferage, deterioration, contamination, and infestation.
+ Handle returned items from service areas, verifying dates and quantities before returning the items to storage.
+ Adjusts workflow when supply shortages or equipment issues arise.
+ Assembles, weighs, and distributes orders for food preparation and service, ensuring correct items and quantities are available for cooking.
+ Scales recipes using English measurements (e.g., ounces, pounds, cups, teaspoons, gallons, etc.).
+ Controls inventory for non-food supplies, assuring assigned areas are fully stocked; replenishes stock as needed.
+ Supports the maintenance and organization of multiple inventory storage locations within the department.
+ Completes physical inventory counts to reconcile records and identify any discrepancies.
+ Participates in production planning meetings to align material availability with menu cycles and output goals.
+ Recommends and implements process improvements for material flow and efficiency.
Distribution and Transport
+ Pulls and loads the necessary food, supplies, and equipment for delivery to satellite kitchens and other service points based on requisitions or production sheets.
+ Verifies load slips and tallies to ensure all food items are prepared and loaded at the correct temperature. Inspects goods for accuracy, damage, packaging, specifications, labeling, expiration dates, and correct temperatures.
+ Uses equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts, and dollies to safely and efficiently move large quantities of goods. Perform basic checks on material handling equipment, such as forklifts, and make minor operator repairs if necessary. Keeps all equipment used for material handling, including trucks and carts, in a clean and sanitized condition.
+ Abides by delivery requirements for CMHHIP and CDOC facilities to ensure safety, including but not limited to annual background and driver's license review and CDOC training.
Safety and Sanitation
+ Adheres to Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines in the storage, handling, preparation of food, and personal hygiene in the sanitation and maintenance of the work area.
+ Follows standard operating procedures for handling, storing food, and supplies to ensure compliance with regulations and minimize product damage through safe and careful handling
+ Keeps the assigned work area clean and organized–disposing of empty cardboard boxes, sweeping, and placing all waste in trash bins.
+ Cleans and secures the loading and receiving docks at the end of each shift. This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning cold and dry storage areas, transport, distribution, and storage equipment.
+ Processes paperwork and maintain record-keeping of invoices, logs, inventory, etc., to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
+ Monitors and records temperatures of food items, refrigerators, and freezers, documents and reports any discrepancies.
+ Labels and dates incoming and outgoing food and supplies.
+ Disposes of dented cans and any expired products, and documents in the corresponding logs.
+ Ensures proper storage of hazardous chemicals by following Safety Data Sheets (SDS) guidelines and filing procedures.
+ Follows safety guidelines for receiving deliveries, storage, and operating a pallet jack.
+ Opens and/or closes a large production kitchen and ensures security of department premises through completion of knife/utensil count records and adherence to key, secured areas, and contraband policies.
+ Recognizes and reports any unsafe conditions, such as spills or improperly stored materials.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Experience Only:
Three (3) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
OR
Education and Experience:
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to three (3) years
Conditions of Employment:

Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges.
+ MOTOR VEHICLE RECORD CHECK: This position will drive a state fleet or non-state fleet vehicle for State business purposes.
+ Exposure to cleaning chemicals and commercial equipment.
+ May be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
+ Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:
+ Disclose that information on the application.
+ Explain why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify you from the current position.

CDHS Selection Process Explanation
Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
