UPMC Hamot is hiring a Senior Professional Staff Nurse to join our Labor & Delivery team in the Women's Hospital!
This position offers flexible working conditions and opportunities to work across areas in Labor & Delivery and Antepartum, with advancement to OB Triage. RNs work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams to provide safe, compassionate care for women in all stages of pregnancy, supporting patients and providers throughout the continuum of obstetric care.
This position is full-time, rotating day/night shifts. Occasional weekend and holiday coverage required.

Sign-On Bonus Details (Full-Time status)
* $15,000 sign-on bonus available for nurses with over one year of experience

Purpose: The Senior Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. The Senior Professional Staff Nurse is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Senior Professional Staff Nurse has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of nursing care. In addition, manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Senior Professional Staff Nurse encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care and demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

+ Identifies opportunities for clinical and workplace improvement; applies evidence-based practice routinely.
+ Serves on or leads teams to implement innovations in patient care and promote a healthy work environment.
+ Acts as a role model and recognized unit leader in areas such as clinical expertise, teaching, resource nursing, and evidence-based practice.
+ Provides constructive feedback, participates in peer review, and promotes changes that enhance patient care and unit culture.
+ Demonstrates advanced clinical assessment and analytical skills within Relationship-Based Care; actively engages in shared governance and hospital-wide councils.
+ Enthusiastically precepts students, graduate nurses, and new hires; fosters continuous learning through education, research sharing, and professional development activities.
+ Applies nursing process to create holistic, patient-centered care plans; communicates effectively and documents comprehensively to support care continuity.
+ Demonstrates critical thinking to address clinical, social, psychological, and spiritual needs; aligns practice with organizational goals for safety, quality, and satisfaction.
+ Builds compassionate relationships with patients, families, and colleagues; promotes cultural awareness and addresses workplace issues such as horizontal violence.

+ Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care and interact effectively with patients across the lifespan.
+ Understands principles of growth and development; assesses and interprets patient data to meet age-specific needs per department policies.
+ Minimum 2 years of experience; BSN preferred.
+ Must achieve and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher rating on annual Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation.
+ Builds positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, staff, and patients/families.
+ Works effectively in a complex environment, managing multiple priorities and specialized equipment.
+ Exhibits exemplary clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills for patient care.
+ Applies nursing process and leads others in its implementation.
+ Requires mobility, visual/manual dexterity, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within one year of hire or transfer.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
+ NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) within 6 months of hire or transfer.
+ Registered Nurse (RN)
+ Act 33 with renewal
+ Act 34 with renewal
+ Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
+ Annual completion of a professional contributions selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by Unit Director OR UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained. OR Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held. If a BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification.
+ UPMC approved nursing certification preferred.
*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
