Position: Expressive Activity Therapist
Openings: 1
Duration: perm - 20%
PR: $30.86 - $46.28/hr
Shift:
• Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday 9:30 am - 6 pm
• There is flexibility with the schedule and timing
Interview Process:
• On-Site Interview: conversational and tour of facility
• Potential for a 2nd round depending on experience
Day-to-Day Responsibilities: Insight Global is seeking an experienced Expressive Activity Therapist to support the Psychiatric Institute of Washington (PIW), a 130-bed, short-term, acute care hospital providing comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults. This candidate will be administratively and clinically responsible for providing recreational/expressive therapies activities for adolescents, and adults from the ages of 5-65+. Assume delegated responsibility as liaison to treatment teams in which they must exhibit in-depth knowledge in assessment and prescription of Expressive Therapy program for individual patient needs.
Responsibilities:
• Knowledge of Recreational therapy standards of practice as certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
• Knowledge of group dynamics and the provisions of a therapeutically safe environment.
• Ability to establish and maintain an empathetic therapeutic relationship with patients.
• Ability to assess and document patient progress during treatment.
• Ability to communicate clinical input as a member of the patient’s multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Ability to function as a Handle With Care team member.

Skills and Requirements
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy or related field required.
• Master's degree in related field highly preferred.
• Current certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
• Eligible for (or possess) current license in District of Columbia.
• One Year of experience as a Recreational Therapist.
Other Notes:
• Art Therapist, Yoga (Art Movement), Occupational Therapist, Recreational Therapist --> anything in the expressive discipline.
• Team: report directly into the Director of Expressive Therapy.
• 5 other expressive therapists --> 3 FTE's, 1 PT (on leave), 1 on PRN.
• 10 inpatient units --> 15-25 patients per unit.
• D2D:
• leading group therapy sessions (45-60 minutes, 4 groups / day), documentation (MUST document for each patient, required even if the patient does not come to group session), conducting intake assessments.
