Summary:
+ This role is responsible for leading the implementation and evaluation of new product requests within designated Value Analysis Committees (VACs), facilitating VAC and subcommittee meetings, and presenting outcomes to systemwide Value Analysis Councils. Acting as a liaison among Materials Management, Physicians, Clinical Groups, Supply Chain, and System Leadership, the position promotes product and vendor standardization through effective communication, education, and consultation. It also oversees service line VACs, supporting standardization, utilization, and new product assessments, while coordinating closely with supply chain teams to align supply, equipment, and contractual initiatives with organizational goals.
+ Additionally, the role serves as a facilitator and clinical resource for introducing new products, services, and technologies, ensuring that clinical input and safety, regulatory, and epidemiological considerations are incorporated before decisions are made. Responsibilities include identifying alternatives during backorders or recalls, preparing evidence-based value analysis reports, and implementing educational initiatives to optimize product use. The position collaborates with supply chain and clinical teams to monitor financial performance, ensuring all product-related initiatives support the organization's operational and strategic objectives.
Responsibilities:
+ 1. PATIENT/CUSTOMER & EMPLOYEE/ORGANIZATIONAL:
+ Meets regularly with hospital leadership and management to review product/equipment/supply issues and provide updates on resolution to known issues.
+ Regularly meets with Patient Care Services Purchasing, and Materials Management employees at all levels to improve communication and to build productive relationships.
+ Continuously communicates at all levels the importance of patient satisfaction, quality of care, and sound financial performance and champions successes and priorities for improving performance in meeting and exceeding patient and customer expectations through the selection, implementation, and utilization of products and technology.
+ Analyzes and utilizes employee and organizational satisfaction data to identify opportunities.
+ Implement and follow through with action plans.
+ Manage & eliminate process workarounds in relation to products and technology.
+ Internal Partnerships:
+ Works with Patient Care Services at all levels, Director of Supply Chain, Finance, Corporate Purchasing, Clinical Engineering, and Materials Management, and all relevant departments in developing programs, services and initiatives to anticipate future customer needs, build customer loyalty and generate profitable growth. Establishes and updates processes and work practices.
+ Supports standards and drives operational integration of programs by ensuring alignment of communication to Patient Care Services and Non-Patient Care Services Leadership.
+ Supports Patient Care Services and Clinical Support Departments at all levels, Corporate Purchasing, Clinical Engineering and Materials Management in establishing/updating processes and work practices.
+ Manage and eliminate process workarounds by appropriately and consistently sharing with organizational partners the issues, which require their attention. For example, timely delivery of equipment with appropriate checking by clinical engineering etc.
+ Review subjective and objective data and identify opportunities for improvement.
+ Drive patient/client loyalty and physician referral by ensuring members of implementation, selection, education, and evaluation team to understand commitment to service, their own work processes, and to have the necessary products and technology available to meet service expectations.
+ Participates in the strategic planning processes for large equipment purchases, including those made in construction and expansion projects.
+ Supports Patient Care Services and Clinical Support Departments at all levels, Corporate Purchasing, Clinical Engineering and Materials Management in managing team and individual performance in alignment with the UPHS vision of service excellence.
+ Drive patient/client loyalty and physician referral by ensuring members of implementation, selection, education, and evaluation team to understand UPHS’ commitment to service, their own work processes, and to have the necessary products and technology to meet service expectations.
+ Provides interdisciplinary consultation throughout the organization on all product and equipment related initiatives to align with organizational standards and the Blueprint for Quality and Patient Safety.
+ Focus energies on collaborating and accountability in problem resolution.
+ Manage stakeholder complaints and provide timely follow up to ensure satisfaction.
+ 2. OPERATIONS: HIGH RELIABILITY PATIENT CARE IOM:
+ Supports Patient Care Services and Clinical Support Departments at all levels, Supply Chain, Finance, Corporate Purchasing, Clinical Engineering and Materials Management in establishing/updating processes and work practices:
+ Building work practices and team processes that utilize products and technology based on the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) Six Aims for Improvement:
+ 1. Safe: avoid injuries to patients from the care that is intended to help them.
+ 2. Effective: provide services based on scientific knowledge.

+ 4. Timely: reduce waits and sometimes-harmful delays for both those who receive care and those who give care.
+ 5. Efficient: avoid waste, including waste of equipment, supplies, ideas, and energy.
+ 6. Equitable: provide care that does not vary in quality because of personal characteristics such as gender, ethnicity, geographic location or socio-economic status.
+ Communicate, reinforce, update, and facilitate as necessary procedures relevant to products and technology that will impact patient care services.
+ Continuously improve unit/department/organizational operations to maintain and exceed internal/external regulatory compliance and achieve clinical excellence.
+ In conjunction with all stakeholders involved in the patient care processes, institute operational changes based on data (e.g.) Safety Nets, customized unit/department operations data).
+ Participates in and supports patient safety goals and initiatives (FMEA, RCA).
+ Problem solves product supply needs.
+ Regulatory Compliance: (In partnership with Leadership Team)
+ Ensures compliance with all relevant federal, state and local regulatory standards and requirements, including TJC, Department of Health, funding agencies, FDA, HIPAA, HCFA, DPW and others. Demonstrates understating of Magnet standards and aligns organization to meet them.
+ Communicate, reinforce, and update as necessary environment of care procedures relevant to products and technology (e.g. safety, security, hazardous materials, emergency, medical equipment, and utility management.)
+ 3. OPERATIONS:
+ Supports Patient Care Services and Clinical Support Departments at all levels, Supply Chain, Corporate Purchasing, Finance, Clinical Engineering and Materials Management in facilitating change management in the unit/department/organization:
+ Communication plans are effectively implemented.
+ Ensure appropriate follow-up of major issues.
+ Manage routine and crisis communications throughout the health system/entity as they arise.
+ Evaluates effectiveness of change and implementation plans.
+ Provides consultation for patient care services and clinical support departments involvement in interdisciplinary quality improvement initiatives related to equipment/supplies/devices.
+ Leadership:
+ Participates and provides feedback in the selection, career development and annual performance review of staff and peers as requested.
+ Collaborate with Patient Care Services and Clinical Support Departments at all levels, Corporate Purchasing, Materials Management, and interdisciplinary clinicians in proactively promoting efforts to improve cost effective quality patient care.
+ Evidence Based Patient Care Services and Clinical Support Department Practice:
+ In collaboration with Patient Care Services and Clinical Support Departments at all levels, Corporate Purchasing, and Materials Management, will promote research-based clinical nursing interventions and health service delivery models that have demonstrated potential to improve patient care and achieve cost savings.
+ Assists Patient Care Services and Clinical Support Departments at all levels, Corporate Purchasing, and Materials Management in rapid and effective implementation of these best practices.
+ Patient Care Services and Clinical Support Departments Research/Translational Medicine:
+ Collaborates with Patient Care Services and Clinical Support Departments at all levels, Corporate Purchasing, and Materials Management promoting and coordinating research-based practices, which foster improved methods for patient care and nursing practices in inpatient, ambulatory, and other community care settings.
+ Supports the Patient Care Services and Clinical Support Departments at all levels, Corporate Purchasing, and Materials Management in facilitating the Financial Management of the Unit/Department/Organization:
+ Continually seeks opportunities to reduce supply costs.
+ Review and develop financial reports for distribution and evaluation by Patient Care Services and Clinical Support Departments at all levels, Corporate Purchasing, and Materials Management as needed to ensure activities are expensed appropriately and determine opportunities.
+ Analyze and manage data as tool to manage expenses.
+ Support and develop Supply Value Initiatives with Patient Care Services and Clinical Support Departments at all levels, Corporate Purchasing, and Materials Management.
+ Serve as the PMPH Representative for system wide Value Analysis committees and leads local value analysis initiative.
+ Facilitate education programs for clinicians in the use of technology and /or product enhancements.
+ Ability to balance financial models to achieve budget targets and organization objectives.
Credentials:
+ Registered Nurse - PA (Required)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
+ Associate of Arts or Science (Required)
+ Education Specialization:Nursing, Healthcare Administration Busine Administration or related field.
+ And 5+ years Minimum of five years of progressive nursing experience with demonstrated leadership skills.
+ And 2+ years Minimum of two years’ experience in products/supply chain process.
+ And Microsoft/Excel proficiency.
