    Are you an experienced Civil Engineer ready to take on a leadership role where you can shape the future of public works and guide the next generation of engineering professionals?

     

    We are seeking a Lead Transportation Engineer specializing in managing public works infrastructure projects for local municipalities to join our growing Roads + Highways team in San Diego. In this role, you’ll combine your technical and management expertise with your ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers and designers.

     

    This is an exciting opportunity for a driven professional who enjoys delivering innovative infrastructure solutions for public works projects. You’ll lead the design and coordination of roadways, bikeways, and stormwater systems while serving as a trusted technical resource, project manager, and team leader.

     

    Responsibilities & Qualifications

    What You’ll Do:

    + **Lead roadway and highway design projects** from concept through construction, ensuring high-quality technical delivery and design excellence.

    + **Mentor and develop junior and mid-level staff** , providing guidance in project execution, technical design, and career growth.

    + Serve as a **Project Manager** , leading interdisciplinary teams in the design of roadways, bikeways, intersections, interchanges, and related infrastructure, including drainage and water quality projects.

    + Serve as a **Contract Manager** , managing on-call contracts with local agencies and forming high performing teams to successfully deliver task orders.

    + Oversee the preparation of construction documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.

    + Support staff in achieving QA/QC standards and meeting internal and agency requirements.

    + Foster strong relationships with clients, agencies, and local partners; act as a trusted advisor for technical matters.

    + Participate in and/or lead project pursuits, including the “Go/No-Go” decision making process, proposal development and client interviews.

    + Build and nurture relationships with existing and potential clients and teaming partners.

    + Collaborate with the Roads + Highways Sector Manager and other transportation leaders to develop and execute business development strategies.

    + Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and meetings to promote capabilities and establish thought leadership.

    + Guide and support your team through technical challenges, schedule management, and coordination with subconsultants and stakeholders.

    What We’re Looking For:

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required.

    + Professional Engineer (PE) license in California required.

    + **15+ years of progressive experience** in roadway engineering and transportation infrastructure.

    + **Strong technical background** in transportation, grading, or drainage design.

    + Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil3D, StormCAD, OpenRoads Designer, HEC-RAS, and other related software.

    + Proven ability to manage complex projects, lead technical teams, and coordinate with multiple disciplines.

    + Excellent communication skills and an eagerness to mentor early-career engineers.

     

    Additional Information

     

    TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $140,000- $21,000 annually for this position and local market.
