    School Psychologist

     

    Provide interventions and support services for preschool children which are critical to the child’s success in their educational program. Monitor the development of the children in all developmental domains, with a strong understanding of development, assessment and standardized testing.

    Requirements

    • Master’s Degree (60 Credits) in School Psychology – New York State Certification, Ph.D preferred

    • Experience working with developmentally delayed children.

    • Strong knowledge base regarding psycho-educational assessment and standardized testing and behavior management techniques for preschool children.

    • Must be physically able to handle all aspects of the supervision of the day to day activities of preschoolers which may include but not limited to, running, bending, lifting up to 25 lbs.

    • Bilingual Spanish preferred.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to coach and counsel, interpret and advise.

    • Strong interpersonal skills in order to communicate with children, families, administration and school districts.

    • Ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously.

    • Basic Microsoft Office skills required.

    Essential Functions

    • Engage with all the children on caseload in order to provide ongoing assessment and input regarding the child’s needs and growth.

    • Collaborate with classroom teams to ensure the child’s progression with his/her goals

    • Provide individual/group counseling, play therapy as per the child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).

    • Provide social skills training on an ongoing basis in large/small group settings

    • Conduct psycho-educational evaluations and assessments.

    • Provide Quarterly Progress Notes and, Behavioral Plan Updates for Annual Review.

    • Facilitate communication and partnership between home and school

    • Conduct Routine Based Interviews with the child’s classroom team and the child’s family in order to provide important psychosocial information to aid the team in its work with the child/family

    • Monitor the child’s behavioral development – conduct Functional Behavior Assessments.

    • Create and maintain child’s Behavior Intervention Plan, including but not limited to creating data forms, maintain data collection, assessment of current plan and adjustments to plan.

    • Attend Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE)/ Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings as needed

    • Keep current in the field regarding new information on evaluation, assessment and treatment options

    • Act as a conduit within the school to promote the Positive Behavior Intervention Systems in order to create a school-wide atmosphere to encourage social-emotional development of our children.

    • Attend professional meetings, staff meetings, mental health conferences/workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.

    • Provide in-service training to staff as needed

    • Other duties as assigned
