    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under general supervision, the Senior Water Reclamation Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintenance and repair activities in the liquids, solids or outside the combined sewer overflow facilities and sanitary/storm pump stations areas of the Bay View Wastewater Treatment Plant (Plant). They perform work of considerable difficulty, encompassing plant-wide maintenance, planned and emergency maintenance to ensure that the Plant meets the requirements of the Ohio EPA's NPDES permit. The Senior Water Reclamation Maintenance Worker also assists in training and provides technical guidance to employees, in addition to performing related work as required.

     

    This position performs on the Journeyman level of maintenance work.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    + The Senior Water Reclamation Maintenance Worker performs and/or directs others in planned, preventative, and emergency maintenance utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for work assignments and data input to help assure timely completion of assigned tasks and to maintain proper records on equipment service history.

    + Some responsibilities include but are not limited to the oiling and greasing of all mechanical equipment, including shafts, bearings, sprockets, drive chains, gears, and pulleys, replacing or repairing same as needed.

    + Disassembles, cleans, washes, and makes necessary repairs to heat exchangers.

    + Modifies parts for equipment when unavailable or difficult to replace.

    + Repairs large piping and fittings and threads pipe as needed; dismantles, overhauls or repairs, and re-assembles pumps or valves;

    + Repairs and maintains lift stations and regulators.

    + Utilizes technical knowledge to comprehend hydraulic operation of piping and pumps; welds, cuts, and brazes as required in conjunction with general maintenance work.

    + Performs carpentry, cement work, and may assist electricians in the performance of minor electrical repairs in conjunction with general maintenance work.

    + Reads precision gauges, such as dial indicators, micro-meters, and vernier calipers, and sets equipment in proper alignment with such gauges.

    + Sets up and operates portable equipment such as sand-blasters, welders, pumps and air compressors and operates fork-lifts and backhoes in conjunction with maintenance work.

    + Applies paint, sealers, epoxies and tars using brushes, rollers and spray guns.

    + Makes minor repairs to boilers and boiler piping as necessary; utilizes shop prints to fabricate parts, equipment, or structures.

    + Trains and directs employees of lower classifications in their performance of maintenance activities inside and outside of plant grounds and assumes responsibility for the quality and quantity of work performed.

    + May assist skilled trades in the repair and overhauling of diesel engines.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Knowledge of:

    + Mechanical equipment maintenance and repair.

    + Tools used in mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair work.

    + Occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.

    + Wastewater treatment and collection systems.

    + Asset management and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

    + Record keeping procedures.

    + Microsoft office products.

    Skill in:

    + In the use of tools and equipment.

    + Locating and correcting mechanical equipment breakdown.

    Ability to:

    + Work with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

    + Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, vendor representatives and clients.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS:

    + Graduation from high school or General Educational Development (GED) Tests equivalency

    + Four (4) years of experience in the maintenance of a water or wastewater treatment plant, vehicle or heavy equipment repair or repair of industrial machinery used in factories or other closely related industry utilizing similar mechanical equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, compressors, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

    + One (1) year of maintenance work experience in a State of Ohio Class IV water reclamation facility (or equivalent in another state) may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.

    + Possession of a journeyman card as a Millwright may be substituted for the experiential requirement.

    ADDITIONAL OR SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    + Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver's license. Possession of a valid state-issued Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License is desirable.

    + Position assignment may require the ability to wear respirators and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and to work in confined spaces.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS:

    + Technical or vocational school or professional certifications (Millwright, HVAC certified) are preferred.

    In this position, the employee will occasionally stand, sit, climb, push, pull, drag and/or carry up to 80 pounds. The employee will frequently walk-in all-weather conditions. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crawling and crouching may occur with this position. Speaking and listening are constant essential functions of this position.

    The employee is frequently indoors and outdoors. This employee will occasionally work in extreme heat. This employee will frequently work in conditions where fumes and mists are presents. In addition, this employee will occasionally work in conditions where poor ventilation, dust and gases are present. This employee will be occasionally exposed to various hazards. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    OPERS is a pension plan providing fixed retirement benefits every month based on a formula that rewards years of service. The City contributes 14.00% of the employee’s annual base salary and employees contribute 10.00% of their annual base salary.

    Deferred Compensation & 401(K)

     

    The City of Toledo offers a voluntary governmental 457(b) deferred compensation plan, which is a retirement savings plan that allows eligible employees to supplement any existing retirement/pension benefits by saving and investing pre-tax dollars through salary deferral.
