    JOB SUMMARY

    Responsibilities include direct patient care, oversight/supervision of mid-level practitioners, liaison activities with local medical staff members and participation in policy development and long-term planning for clinic operations.

    PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:

    Management of Patient Care:

    + Provides direct services to pediatrics patients on an ongoing basis at clinic sites, the Emergency Department, and at WhidbeyHealth Medical Center via current caseload as well as consultation with advanced practice practitioner staff and other providers.

    + Participates in the on-call schedule for pediatrics providers on staff at WhidbeyHealth Medical Center.

    + Provides for the clinical supervision of mid-level staff, and remains available as a resource for planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care services.

    + Periodically reviews medical records as part of patient care evaluation process.

    + Ensures that ongoing patient and family education is provided and facilitates the development & evaluation of standardized education plans and approaches.

    + Assists in ongoing Quality Improvement activities, including planning, conducting, reporting, and evaluation via the performance review process.

    Personnel Management and Development:

    + Provides leadership and direction to advanced practice practitioner staff in accordance with practice act guidelines, as well as department & system goals and objectives.

    + Assists in professional growth and development of clinical staff, including education within and beyond the department.

    + Participates in and fosters ongoing staff communication and support via regular staff meetings, work group meetings, committees, etc.

    Management of clinic programs, services:

    + Remains aware of and assists in meeting or exceeding clinic external review requirements to maintain operations and reimbursement including Medicare/Medicaid requirements, JCAHO accreditation, Rural Health Clinic standards/certification.

    Works closely with the Clinic Manager and Labor & Delivery Manager to:

    + Foster open, supportive communication and conflict management within and beyond the clinics.

    + Establish and maintain a departmental climate conducive to healthy work relationships and collaboration.

    + Participates in interdepartmental meetings and work groups as required or requested.

    + Serves as a resource to other departments and community providers as needed.

    + Provides community education and/or information as requested and attends community meetings as appropriate.

    + Assumes responsibility for own professional education and developmental needs and seeks support and assistance as needed.

    JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

    Education

    + Graduate of an accredited United States or Canadian medical school; Doctor of Medicine, MD or Doctor of Osteopathic, DO.

    + Satisfactory completion of an accredited American or Canadian residency program in allopathic or osteopathic pediatrics.

     

    Training and Experience

     

    + A minimum of two (2) years as a physician, practicing in pediatrics preferred.

    + Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years’ experience in supervision of advanced practice practitioners and/or rural health clinic setting preferred.

    + Must demonstrate current clinical skills, well-developed communication skills, and independent decision-making skills.

    + Must demonstrate ability to provide oversight and support to advanced practice practitioner staff.

    + Must possess working knowledge of factors impacting clinic practice and rural health clinic status, including standards of care, reimbursement issues , industry trends, and networking.

    + Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills and empathy to build trust and effectively communicate complex information to patients and the care team.

    + Attention to detail: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for precise procedures and accurate medical documentation.

    + Problem-solving: The ability to evaluate and manage complex pain problems, often involving diagnostic tests, clinical judgment, and strategic decision-making.

    + Teamwork: A highly collaborative attitude to work effectively within a multidisciplinary

     

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

     

    + Current professional medical licensure in Washington State required

    + Active unrestricted WA State DEA license required

    + American or Canadian Board Eligible or Certification in Pediatrics

    + Active American Heart Association BLS required

    + Active American Heart Association PALS required

    + Active NRP required

    WhidbeyHealth Employees who work a 0.6 FTE or higher are categorized as, “benefit eligible”.

    Salary Range: $200,000 - $215,000 & Eligible for a one-time incentive of up to $20,000
