ATC Specialist

ATEC is looking for an Air Traffic Control Specialist to support the FAA's Airport Facilities Terminal Integration Laboratory (AFTIL). AFTIL provides realistic modeling, simulations, and air traffic scenarios to support the visual validation of planned modifications to airports (e.g., Airport Traffic Control Towers (ATCT), buildings, runways, etc.) and the associated impacts and changes to current Air Traffic (AT) operational procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

+ This position primarily utilizes his/her experience to design air traffic simulations which will be run on the AFTIL’s ATCT simulator.

+ The ATC Specialist will be responsible for interfacing with ATC personnel in the field to gather pertinent air traffic data necessary for respective projects.

+ Travel to various airports to observe their specific air traffic operations and to meet with ATC personnel may be required on occasion.

+ The ATC Specialist will also serve as a pseudo-pilot, when needed, for various human-in-the-loop simulations.

Required:

+ Candidate must possess Air Traffic Control experience in an operational environment.

+ Candidate must have comprehensive knowledge of relevant regulations and FAA Orders (e.g., FAA Order 7110.65, FAA Order 3120, ATC Training Order; and FAA Order 7210, ATC Handbook) and a demonstrated ability to work with operational ATC personnel from airports of all sizes as a liaison who communicates their operational requirements to engineering and scientific personnel.

+ Candidate must have a working knowledge of airport modernization requirements, tower siting criteria, implementation of new runways and taxiways, and associated AT operational procedures.

+ Candidate should have a working knowledge of real-time ATCT modeling and simulation systems and their application to tower siting, airport improvement projects, training, AT operational procedural development and evaluation.

Preferred Experience:

+ Experience working with Adacel MaxSim tools.

+ Experience with relevant real-time tower simulation systems (other than Adacel MaxSim Tools)

+ Experience with Flight Plan Development Environment (FPDE)

EDUCATION/YEARS of EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

+ The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Math, or Science. Eight (8) years of relevant experience over and above the minimum experience requirements for this position will be considered equivalent to a bachelor's degree.

+ In addition, the candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of ATC experience with a degree; or 18 years with no degree. Preference is for this experience to be in an operational FAA Terminal environment, but military ATC experience is acceptable.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:

+ US Citizenship or documented proof of eligibility to work in the US

+ Has been living in the US for at least the past 3 years

WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

+ Works indoors in office conditions primarily sitting/standing for prolonged periods

PAY RANGE:

+ $100k - $110k
