Responds to taxpayer's inquiries regarding preparation of a variety of tax returns, related schedules and other documentation; resolves account inquiries; advises taxpayers of enforcement actions; manages sensitive case problems designated as requiring special case handling Analyzes and resolves tax processing problems. Adjusts taxpayer accounts, prepares and issues manual refunds, performs multiple credit transfers, computes tax, penalty, and interest (including restricted interest) Secures payment of delinquent taxes and filing of delinquent returns. Recommends lien and/or levy action, includes initiating supporting information for release May serve as a technical advisor, OJT coach, classroom instructor, or reviewer, and provide technical assistance on systemic problems and inconsistencies in IRMs Requirements Conditions of Employment STANDARD POSITION DESCRIPTIONS (SPD): PD25366, PD25367, and PD25368 Visit the IRS SPD Library to access the position descriptions. May have to obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel. Qualifications Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement: QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: GENERAL EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION FOR GS-04: To be eligible for this position, you must have 1 year of general experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the Federal service. General experience for this position includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Two (2) years of education above the high school level in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial or technical school. OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION FOR GS-05: To be eligible for this position, you must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is in or related to this position and provided you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying experience may include but not limited to: experience performing a variety of miscellaneous tasks involving researching, reviewing and verifying taxpayer submitted information, and determining corrective/editing action on accounts; experience researching for missing/unclear information, and reviewing financial or other documents submitted for completeness and correspondence, if needed. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university. OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-06: To be eligible for this position, you must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Experience must have included analyzing and adjusting taxpayer accounts and providing information on financial issues, such as misplaced payments; experience identifying priority work following organizational procedures. Examples of qualifying experience include coordinating with internal stakeholders to resolve accounting issues. Additionally, experience may include providing technical guidance to junior team members, such as performing on-the-job instruction (OJI). Education A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected. If the position has specific education requirements and you currently hold, or have previously held, a position in the same job series with the IRS, there is no need to submit a transcript or equivalent at this time. Applicants are encouraged, but are not required, to submit an SF-50 documenting experience in a specific series. A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. Additional Information As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period (unless already completed; note: current Federal employees may be required to serve a new probationary period (Civil Service Rule 11)) during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. The salary range indicated in this announcement reflects the minimum locality pay up to maximum locality pay for all duty locations listed. The range will be adjusted for selected duty location. General Schedule locality pay tables may be found under Salaries & Wages. This is a bargaining unit position. Tour of Duty: Day Shift - Start and stop times between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. OR Swing Shift - Start and stop times between 2:00 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. Season is 6-8 months. Employees who work a seasonal work schedule are placed in non-pay status or recalled to duty as workload or budget dictates and in accordance with their seasonal employment agreement.
