    Duties Description This position is with the Surrogate Decision-Making Committee (SDMC), overseen by Advocacy Specialist 3 (the Volunteer and Contractor Manager). SDMC is an alternative to the court system, providing personalized medical decision-making via panels of volunteers for qualifying individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities or mental health diagnoses. The Volunteer Specialist will be actively involved in the oversight of volunteer panel members, provide SDMC proceeding administration, assist with training and development of educational materials, and serve as unit backup support for regional coordinator and intake functions.Duties include, but may not be limited to: • Manage volunteer activities including: oManage database of volunteer information to maintain accurate contact information, and complete processes related to license verification, reappointment, and end of service. o Review volunteer applications for eligibility, schedule interviews with applicants, and complete enrollment tasks. o Assist with the development and delivery of trainings to provide ongoing learning opportunities to SDMC volunteers. o Work with supervisor and Director on the maintenance and development of program materials reflective of all statutory obligations and SDMC regulations, such as manuals, handbooks, policy and procedures, and process documents. o Assist with ongoing volunteer recruitment, identifying creative methods for expanding volunteer pool and participating in outreach events to reach targeted audiences.• Schedule and administer SDMC proceedings (est. 20-40 per year).• Assist with regional coordinator oversight, such as completing quality reviews and offering guidance to coordinators on hearing questions. • Provide backup support for SDMC intake functions such as answering phone and email inquiries and logging SDMC cases into the SDMC database.• Assist with other unit functions as identified.

     

    Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Non-Competitive: a bachelor’s degree in a human services field, and two years of experience as a professional advocate or service provider in rehabilitation, developmental disabilities, or mental health.Substitution: a master’s degree in a human services field may substitute for one year of the general experience for all titles above. Four years of experience may also substitute for a bachelor’s degree for all titles above.Preferred Qualifications:• Ability to independently manage projects, deadlines, and priorities.• Strong writing and communication skills and ability to clearly convey complex information. • Experience scheduling and managing meetings. • Experience using Microsoft Office programs, databases, Adobe products, and online meeting platforms such as Webex. • Experience delivering trainings and building course material.
