UPMC Presbyterian is excited to welcome an MRI Tech Trainee to our growing imaging team!
This is a unique opportunity to build a strong foundation in MRI while learning side-by-side with experienced technologists in a fast-paced, supportive academic medical center.
This full-time role includes three 13-hour shifts, with every other weekend and holiday coverage. As an MRI Tech Trainee, you'll receive structured, hands-on training through shadowing, protocol education, and CT training to prepare you to confidently perform MRI procedures independently. Under the guidance of a registered MRI Technologist, Proctor, or MRI Instructor, you'll gain real-world experience while developing the technical skills, safety knowledge, and patient-care expertise needed to succeed in MRI.
What you'll do:
+ Participate in comprehensive MRI training while shadowing licensed MRI Technologists
+ Safely screen patients for contraindications prior to MRI procedures
+ Educate patients on MRI exams to ensure comfort, understanding, and safety
+ Perform MRI scans using established protocols, procedures, and safety guidelines once competency is demonstrated
+ Accurately document patient histories and complete required paperwork
+ Demonstrate competency in scanning patients of all ages
+ Administer contrast for designated examinations
+ Perform daily quality control checks on MRI equipment as assigned
+ Maintain effective communication within and across departments
+ Represent the department with professionalism when interacting with patients, physicians, and colleagues
+ Assist with clerical duties and inventory management as needed
+ Participate in performance improvement initiatives
+ Adhere to all UPMC Imaging Services and hospital policies and procedures
+ Graduate of approved School of Radiography.
+ Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology.
+ If not a graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology must currently be enrolled in an advanced imaging tech training program or currently enrolled in the ARMRIT program with successful completion of phase 1 and phase 2 of the program.
+ Must complete hands-on clinical competencies within a year of completing phase 1 and phase 2.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ ARRT, NMTCB (Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board), or ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) registered or must be enrolled in the Tesla Institute.
+ ARRT MRI certification is required after completion of the training program:
+ The maximum timeframe for completion of the program is 6 months with one extension available at 3 months.
+ Required to sit for the ARRT exam no later than 3 or 6 months after completion of the training program.
+ Must remain in the department for two (2) years after certification and registration are achieved.
+ Failure to meet this requirement may result in the need to reimburse UPMC for expenses paid for participation in the program and/or becoming ineligible for promotion as an MRI Technologist.
+ Failure to pass the exam and/or course will result in termination.
+ Maintains current CPR certification.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or successful completion of BLS training and certification upon hire.
+ ARRT Certificate OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC) OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) OR Tesla Institute
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
