    Job Description

    Roles and Responsibilities

    + Perform metallographic preparation, thermo-mechanical processing, testing, and characterization of metallic materials.

    + Identify key technical issues, develop new processes and iteratively improve system performance through experimentation and process optimization with assistance from scientists and engineers

    + Independently own and operate various pieces of laboratory equipment, investigate novel material components and integrated material systems, and utilize basic analytical methods.

    + Be responsible for the safe and compliant use/operation and disposal of hazardous chemicals and materials

    + Build relationships with colleagues at GE Aerospace Research with a wide variety of technical expertise and business responsibilities.

    + Be a member of a multidisciplinary team developing metallic materials.

    Required Qualifications

    + Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Material Science & Engineering or related discipline.

    + Prior experience with metallographic sample preparation, materials processing, heat treatment, testing and characterization.

    + Prior laboratory experience with materials evaluations and characterization.

    + Demonstrated ability to learn new areas of research

    + Ability to work with diverse, high-paced teams

    + Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

    Desired Characteristics

    + Hands-on metallography experience.

    + Hands-on experience in metal powder handling, materials testing, characterization, and corrosion testing of metallic systems.

    + Strong written and verbal communication capabilities

    + Demonstrated passion for hands on work

    + Demonstrated ability to adapt to new processes

    + Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills using innovative and hands-on solutions

    + Demonstrated ability to multi-task and solve complex technical problems.

    + Demonstrated capability to work in a multidisciplinary environment

    + Strong interpersonal skills initiative, high self-confidence and have goals for a career in industrial research.

     

    The base pay range for this position is 60,000 - 110,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary. This posting is expected to close on February 10, 2025
