    Job Description:

    Smith Equipment, a Miller Electric Mfg. company, is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Mechanical Engineer. This position supports product quality, manufacturing, and development activities, as required. We are looking for a positive, highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work well both in a team and individually.

    How You Will Make an Impact:

    Design Innovation & Development:

    + Direct involvement in all design activities including CAD design, fabricating, assembling, troubleshooting, reliability, and 3rd party compliance testing, documentation, product introduction, and manufacturing support.

    + Design and document components and assemblies using SolidWorks.

    + Drive continual improvement of manufacturing/assembly processes as related to safety, quality, efficiency, and delivery.

    + Evaluates, tests, and provides technical support in solving problems with tooling, product and quality specifications, facilities, production methods, and summarizes results in report form.

    + Work with suppliers throughout the development of the project to ensure material costs and schedule stays on target.

    + Design test setups, operate laboratory and shop equipment, build prototypes, perform testing, record data, and write test reports.

    + Participate in all phases of new product development (Discover, Create, Develop and Deploy)

    Technical Support & Quality Improvement:

    + Perform testing, validation, and 3rd-party compliance reviews to resolve technical issues and validate designs.

    + Analyze problems related to product functionality, tooling, manufacturing methods, or materials, and implement effective solutions.

    + Support production through ongoing technical guidance and problem-solving.

    Team Collaboration & Communication:

    + Work with other engineers, technicians, service, and manufacturing personnel to create and implement reliable, cost-effective, streamlined, and simplified, product solutions.

    + Communicate progress, issues, and solutions in a clear, constructive, and actionable way.

    Qualifications:

    Education & Experience:

    + Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related discipline).

    + 3+ years of relevant industry experience preferred.

    + Proven track record of innovative designs, Design for Manufacturing and Assembly, and time management skills

    + Proficiency in computer design skills and knowledge in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office

    + Must be a team player with a positive attitude, high motivation and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    + Solid understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principles; statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, mechanical vibrations, heat transfer, material selection and physics.
