    Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) – Long-Term Care

    Position Summary

    Under the administrative guidance of the Long-Term Care (LTC) Director of Nursing (DON), the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) establishes, maintains, and enhances clinical and operational systems to achieve positive outcomes for residents, families, and staff.

     

    This role is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating strategies that ensure nursing competency, excellence in practice, effective use of technology, and high levels of customer satisfaction. The ADON supports fiscal responsibility through budgeting, financial analysis, cost control, and revenue enhancement while maintaining a strong focus on quality resident care.

     

    The ADON holds 24-hour responsibility and accountability for the facility and actively participates in and/or chairs committees related to nursing operations and organizational performance.

     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Under the administrative guidance of the LTC DON, duties include but are not limited to:

    • Oversee the facility’s Performance Improvement Program, ensuring care delivery meets regulatory standards and organizational expectations aligned with the mission, vision, and values; participate in the LTC divisional Performance Improvement Committee

    • Provide oversight of the PRI and MDS processes to maximize reimbursement and support financial sustainability

    • Represent the Nursing Department on the LTC Safety Committee and coordinate employee safety initiatives

    • Coordinate and oversee the LTC attendance procedure process

    • Provide daily supervisory oversight of nursing staff and clinical operations

    • Assume Nurse Manager responsibilities in the absence of another Nurse Manager

    • Participate in the recruitment and interview process for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) candidates

    Education

    Minimum:

    • Graduate of an accredited school of Registered Professional Nursing

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or willingness to actively pursue

    Preferred:

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

     

    Licensure

    Required:

    • Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license

    Work Experience

    Minimum:

    • Four (4) years of managerial experience and two (2) years of nursing experience with demonstrated leadership abilities in a Long-Term Care setting

    • Knowledge and application of New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) regulations, including successful experience with the survey process

    Preferred:

    • Prior experience at the Assistant Director of Nursing level

     

    Skills & Competencies

    Required:

    • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with medical staff, department leaders, residents, families, and the public in a resident- and family-centered environment

    • Ability to function effectively in high-stress or challenging situations

    • Strong organizational and multitasking skills

    • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism

    • Computer proficiency, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software

    Preferred:

    • PRI and MDS knowledge and/or experience

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

    Schedule & Compensation

    • Schedule: Full-time, day shift (hours may vary based on operational needs)

    • On-call: As required; 24-hour accountability applies

    • Compensation: Competitive salary commensurate with experience
