Description
Lee County Transportation is looking for a responsible and reliable Bridge Tender to operate our drawbridges safely. You will help boats, vehicles, and pedestrians pass smoothly. This job requires someone who can work independently, follow safety rules, and operate mechanical systems carefully.
Duties and Responsibilities
What You Will Do:
+ Operate the drawbridge safely for boats, cars, and pedestrians.
+ Activate warning systems like lights, sirens, and gates.
+ Keep daily logs of bridge operations.
+ Inspect bridge equipment and report any problems.
+ Call for repairs when needed.
+ Talk to boat operators, the Coast Guard, and law enforcement on the radio.
+ Watch weather and water conditions for safety.
+ Keep the bridge house and nearby areas clean and safe.
+ Test the backup motor for emergencies.
+ Help train new bridge tenders.
+ Do other tasks as assigned.
Education, Experience, Licensing
What We’re Looking For:
Education & Experience
+ High school diploma or GED.
Required
+ Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
+ Ability to work alone and follow safety rules.
+ Comfortable using mechanical and electrical equipment.
+ Clear communication skills, especially on the radio.
+ Experience with bridge operation, maintenance, or repair is a plus.
Supplemental Information
Work Schedule:
+ This is an On-Call position.
+ Shifts may be during the day or night, seven days a week.
+ Work locations: Lee County, Alva, and Matlacha.

Retirees of the Investment Plan are eligible for renewed membership in the Investment Plan only. FRS reemployment rules apply for both.
