    Some of what you'll be doing:

    As a Fire Alarm Technician in the Fire Department, you will inspect, test, repair, program, and maintain the fire and fire sprinkler monitoring and signaling systems used to ensure fire safety at SEA Airport.

     

    + You will perform weekly, monthly, and semi-annual and annual maintenance and inspections on all fire-related systems and equipment.

    + You will identify systems, or system components, to inspect and test examine and inspect system installations.

    + You will test circuits, test the operation of signaling units, test the transmission of signals, and test the equipment receiving the signals.

    + You will troubleshoot system issues to identify components that need repair or replacement.

    + You will replace defective parts and/or wiring. Repair equipment as needed.

    + You will program, maintain 911 Dispatch alarm response information/database and server equipment.

    + You will recommend new system components, or modification of existing systems or equipment.

    + You will assist with installation of new equipment as needed. Pull wires and cables and connect to devices for system maintenance and expansion.

    + You will update and modify documentation to reflect system changes and new installations.

    + You will generate reports and maintain documentation of tests, inspections, and repair activities.

    + You will present accurate and reliable information regarding system status and provide system update recommendations as identified.

    + You will organize data and document work through the work order system.

    + You will maintain spare components and parts inventory. You will also order new parts as necessary.

    + You will escort, oversee and disable fire systems for vendors. You will also educate vendors on how to work around systems without impacting operations.

    Who you are:

    + **Experienced** – You have three (3) years of experience working with computerized fire alarm and sprinkler systems.

    + **Educated** – You possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.

    + **Certifications** - Washington State EL06 (Limited Energy/Low Voltage) Electrician License and a National Institute Certifying Engineering Technologies (“NICET”) Level II or higher.

    + **Desired** – We hope you have Programmable logic controller (“PLC”) programming, CAD applications (Bluebeam/AutoCAD) and/or radio mesh network experience.

    + **Technical** – You possess the skills to administer and troubleshoot complex alarm systems. You also possess fundamental knowledge of computer communication protocols to include RS-232, RS-485, and TCP/IP.

    + **Troubleshooting** – You are proficient in troubleshooting and problem-solving to manage critical fire alarm system failure responses and recovery efforts.

    + **Communication** – You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills while interacting with airport personnel and the public.

    What else you need to know:

    + **Driver’s License** – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.

    + **Work Schedule** – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You will be required to work during emergencies and required to be on call on a rotational basis.

    + **Work Environment** – You will primarily work in an office environment. You may also work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces.

    + **Washington State Residency Requirement** – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.

    + **Overtime Eligible** – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.

    + **Safety Requirements** – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements in an industrial environment will little supervision.

    + **Security Requirements** – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.

    + **Union Representation** – This position is represented by International Association of Firefighters union, Local 1257.
