    Job Summary

    Leadership of Sports Medicine at UM Health will be vested in a multi-disciplinary triad leadership team consisting of the Executive Director, Sports Medicine, the **Associate Director, Sports Medicine** , and the Associate Chief Operating Officer, Sports Medicine.

     

    Alongside their triad partners, the **Associate Director, Sports Medicine** has responsibility for advancing the development, implementation, alignment, and performance of UMH Sports Medicine, and for leading system-level strategic, clinical, programmatic, and operational initiatives across the statewide network continuum of care, inclusive of UMH-AMC, UMH-Sparrow, UMH-West, and other partner institutions.

     

    The **Associate Director, Sports Medicine** and their triad partners will work in close collaboration with leadership of multiple departments in support of the Sports Medicine program. These departments include Anesthesiology, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Pediatrics, PM&R, Radiology, and others as appropriate.

    Responsibilities*

    **Goals and key areas of responsibility for this role include** :

    **Institute and Service Line Co-Leadership** :

    + Provide clinical, administrative, operational, and strategic leadership and oversight for the Sports Medicine service line and Nathan and Catherine Forbes Sports Medicine Institute

    + Facilitate system-wide clinical growth and operational integration of Sports Medicine services with a focus on improving patient access and patient experience, increasing the efficiency of system capacity and resource utilization, and growing the clinical enterprise. Connect back to the education and research missions as appropriate

    + Lead system-wide plan for clinical programmatic development and service distribution across clinical services and teams to advance capabilities, quality, and access

    + Lead system-wide prioritization of Sports Medicine investments through existing governance with connection to established funding sources

    + Prioritize and support initiatives to achieve the highest levels of physician and employee engagement system-wide with other leadership. Coordinate and support recruitment efforts where needed

    + Engage Sports Medicine clinical leadership across UMH sites to execute on service line priorities and performance metrics

    + Communicate Sports Medicine program vision, goals, and progress at all levels of the organization

    **Primary Care Sports Medicine** :

    + Lead recruitment and hiring of talented primary care Sports Medicine physicians who are highly clinically productive

    + Lead community outreach programs, including care with local high schools and athletic programs, to grow the UMH Sports Medicine statewide network for established and new geographic markets

    + Unify leadership of primary care and non-operative physicians providing Sports Medicine and musculoskeletal care from various departments, with the development of new educational and research initiatives such as clinical trials, case conferences, journal clubs, operational and administrative meetings, and improved decision trees

    + Establish standardized clinical care pathways and protocols for primary care, Sports Medicine, and clinic-based procedures (including regenerative therapies) for all primary care Sports Medicine providers

    + Integrate and grow primary care Sports Medicine within UMH sports and musculoskeletal practices across the statewide network, including UMH-Sparrow, UMH-West, and Oakland County

    + Work in partnership with Head Orthopedic Team Physician for UM Athletics and Medical Director for UM Athletics to assure excellent access and best practices for sports and musculoskeletal care for student athletes

    + Build the UMH community outreach network with maintenance of existing and acquisition of new high school relationships to support their athletic programs

    + Work with departmental and Sports Medicine leadership to develop clinical practice guidelines for appropriate non-operative service triage and referrals to assure improved access and comprehensive care

    **Regenerative Medicine** :

    + Develop a unified regenerative practice at UMH with standardization of services, protocols, and procedures offered

    + Develop and get approval for a reimbursement and compensation model for regenerative medicine procedures in partnership with the departments

    + Develop a standardized FPPE for credentialing and practicing regenerative medicine at UMH

    + Standardize equipment, protocols, and services across practice locations

    + Develop a regenerative medicine biorepository and prospective clinical outcome registry for regenerative therapies delivered at UMH

    Required Qualifications*

    **Requirements** :

    + Non-operative sports medicine physician in practice for a minimum of 3 to 5 years

    + Eligible for a faculty appointment within University of Michigan Medical School

    + Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program in internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, emergency medicine, or physical medicine & rehabilitation

    + Board certification in respective specialty

    + Completion of an ACGME-accredited nonoperative sports medicine fellowship

    + Membership and/or leadership in the AMSSM and non-operative sports medicine societies

    + Leadership experience in community outreach, clinical programs, and/or service line development

    **Functional skills** :

    + Clinical expertise in primary care / non-operative Sports Medicine

    + Physician relationships and management

    + Quality oversight

    + Research and education

    + High functioning in a complex matrix environment

    + Innovative mindset, including agility and problem-solving

    Additional Information

    + **Associate Director, Sports Medicin** **e** will report to both the Executive Director, Sports Medicine and faculty-based reporting through the departmental structure

     

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
