    Summary:

    Reporting to the Director of Safety and Security, this position is responsible for implementation and enforcement of the Environment of Care (EOC) and Life Safety programs of Danbury and New Milford Hospitals in accordance with Federal, State, Joint Commission and Local Authority mandates to ensure a safe and compliant environment across Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital and associated licensed offsite facilities. This role plays a critical part in maintaining regulatory compliance, conducting safety audits, and promoting a culture of safety among staff, patients, and visitors. The safety manager collaborates with clinical, facilities, and administrative teams to proactively identify risks and drive continuous improvement in safety practices.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Responsible for maintaining all Joint Commission Environment of Care (EOC) and Life Safety (LS) regulatory requirements, including all Management Plans, Annual Evaluations and PI standards per the Joint Commission. Provides guidance for the Life Safety Code, EOC and Joint Commission Standards as they relate to the Environment of Care. Performs regular audits of binders to ensure documentation meets the standards outlined in the Joint Commission EOC and LS requirements. Findings will be documented and communicated to identified departments for corrective action. Monitors compliance with OSHA, Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, and other regulatory standards. Participates in surveys and prepares for accreditation reviews.

    2. Maintains documentation of safety inspections, incident reports, and corrective actions.

    3. Coordinates and conducts environment of care rounds at both hospital campuses and offsite facilities to identify hazards and ensure safe practices. Performs regular, scheduled and unannounced inspections for compliance with all regulatory agencies. Identify and anticipates safety and health concerns and hazards by surveying the environmental, operational, and occupational conditions.

    4. Works collaboratively with Emergency Management, Security, and Employee health to identify workforce safety issues. Coordinates with Facilities and Infection Control teams on environmental safety initiatives.

    5. Responds to safety-related incidents and emergencies; conducts investigations and root cause analysis. Reports, tracks and trends safety incidents and works with subject matter experts to recommend preventative measures.

    6.. Chairs the Danbury and New Milford Hospital�s Environment of Care Committee (EOC) and participates as a member of the Facilities Management Team and the Emergency Management Committee, Infection Control Committee, and other committees as designated.

    7. Conducts fire drills to meet per Joint Commission standards. Provides training when identified.

    8. Partners with other departments as required for safety training and risk assessment.

    9. Assists in the development and execution of hospital-wide safety policies and procedures.

    10. Develops the development of the operating and capital budget for the Safety Department.

    11. In conjunction with the Director of Safety and Security, and Manager of Security, collaborates in the design and implementation of physical security technology systems, including access controls, CCTV, Facial recognition, and weapons detection and ensures all security systems function properly.

    12. Chairs interim life safety meetings. Independently reviews and approves pre-construction risk assessment process to determine the need to implement interim life safety measures and other risk reduction strategies. Conducts construction surveillance rounds on active projects. With support from the�Director, this position has autonomy and final safety approval for the DH/NMH and licensed offsite facilities.

    13. May receive calls after hours for emergency response coordination.

    14. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

    15. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Other Information:

    Required: Associate�s degree in healthcare, human resources, security, or other job-related field.

     

    Preferred � bachelor�s degree

     

    Previous Leadership experience preferred; strong interpersonal communication skills, computer (Microsoft Office).

    Preferred: Job related certifications (Certified Healthcare Safety Officer, NFPA, OSHA, TJC)

    Experience working with infection control and Joint Commission guidelines; familiarity with healthcare regulatory bodies and hospital systems. Experience in healthcare safety or risk management. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments and external agencies.

     

    Minimum Experience:� minimum of 3 years' work-related experience.
