Position Summary:
The Integrated Modeling Group in the Laboratory for Laser Energetics’ Theoretical Division seeks a physicist specializing in multiphysics computational modeling and development. The successful candidate will focus on thermonuclear physics applications relevant to stockpile stewardship and defense application; inertial confinement fusion; and high-energy density physics. Experience with verification and validation is desired. Candidates must have a PhD in Physics or Astrophysics.
Responsibilities:
+ Collaborate with scientists and engineers across all Divisions at LLE to design, execute, and analyze experiments conducted on the OMEGA laser facility and National Ignition Facility
+ Perform high-fidelity hydrodynamic simulations to model a wide range of High Energy Density (HED) physics phenomena produced in laboratory environment
+ Develop, benchmark, and apply advanced computational models to interpret experimental data and improve predictive capabilities of simulation tools
+ Work closely with teams at the U.S. Department of Energy’s national laboratories to apply and co-develop state-of-the-art numerical methods, physics packages, and simulation frameworks for HED science
+ Present research findings through internal reviews, technical reports, and peer-reviewed journal publications; represent LLE at national and international scientific conferences
+ Support the mentoring of students and junior researchers in simulation methods, data analysis, and scientific communication
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
+ **U.S. Citizenship** (required – must be able to work on-site).
+ **Doctorate (Ph.D.)** in Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
+ Strong programming experience in **C and Fortran** .
+ Hands-on experience in running hydrodynamic codes
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
+ Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented research or engineering environment.

SALARY RANGE: $115,000 to $180,000
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates are set within the job's compensation range, and determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
