A Veterinary Kennel Attendant provides daily care and supervision of animals housed at a veterinary clinic or boarding facility. The role includes tasks such as feeding, cleaning, and monitoring animals, assisting veterinary staff, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for all animals under care. The position requires a love for animals, attention to detail, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced, sometimes emotionally demanding environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Animal Care:
o Feed and water animals as directed by veterinary staff or clients.
o Monitor and record the behavior, physical condition, and temperament of animals in the kennel.
o Assist in administering medications (as directed by veterinarians or technicians).
o Provide grooming services (bathing, brushing, nail trimming) when needed. o Walk dogs and provide other forms of enrichment to promote mental and physical well-being.
Facility Maintenance:
o Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, runs, and common areas to ensure a hygienic and safe environment.
o Ensure animals’ living spaces are free from hazards and provide proper bedding.
o Clean and maintain equipment used for animal care, such as leashes, food bowls, and toys.
o Customer Service and Communication:
o Greet clients, answer basic questions about kennel services, and relay any concerns regarding their pets' health or well-being.
o Keep owners informed about their pet's behavior and general condition during their stay.
o Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
o Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions accurately.
o Excellent communication skills and ability to interact positively with clients.
Physical Requirements:
o Ability to lift up to [30] pounds (typically 30-50 lbs).
o Ability to bend, squat, and kneel frequently.
o Willingness to work in various weather conditions (for outdoor walks and activities).
o Ability to handle cleaning chemicals and other materials safely.
Work Environment:
o The role may involve working with animals that are ill, injured, or have behavioral challenges.
o Frequent interaction with clients, veterinarians, and support staff.
o The work environment can be fast-paced, especially during peak seasons or in emergency situations.
o Hours may vary, including weekends, holidays, and evening shifts.
Compensation:
o $17 - 17.5 per hour dependent upon experience.
