Job Description
The Injection Mold Pilot Engineer will play a pivotal role in the Pilot group, which is responsible for the successful launch of new products. This position entails leading the process setup and validation for new models, ensuring manufacturability and compliance with company standards, and driving continuous improvement projects during product launches.
Responsibilities
+ Lead the process setup and validation for new models, including mold trials, DOE (Design of Experiments), capability studies, and full production handoff.
+ Collaborate closely with product design and tool designers to ensure parts and molds are manufacturable and compliant with company standards.
+ Develop and document standardized molding processes for each new tool to ensure consistency and repeatability.
+ Work with tooling vendors and internal toolrooms to oversee new mold fabrication, testing, and modification.
+ Conduct mold acceptance trials (T0/T1/T2) and provide feedback for tooling optimization.
+ Establish robust process parameters for new tools and products.
+ Coordinate with cross-functional teams including Design, Quality, Production, Tooling, Supply Chain, and Customers.
+ Train production staff and technicians on new processes to ensure successful scale-up and long-term stability.
+ Support the standardization of mold designs, components, and processing methods across new product lines.
+ Drive continuous improvement projects during new product launches to reduce cycle time, improve yield, and enhance manufacturability.
+ Assist launch team with various process preparation tasks including process documentation, prototype event parts preparation, and customer documentation.
Essential Skills
+ 3+ years of experience with injection mold startup/setup.
+ Ability to read part drawings, such as AutoCAD and Catia.
+ Strong communication and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate schedules between multiple teams/groups such as design, tooling, production, suppliers, and customers.
+ Experience in automotive manufacturing, process improvement, mechanical engineering, and plastic injection.
+ Proficiency in lean manufacturing, product development, and project management.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with new product development and process setup.
+ Knowledge of APQP/PPAP.
+ Proficiency in Six Sigma.
+ Experience with tooling design, PLC programming, and Microsoft Excel.
Work Environment
The work environment is an automotive manufacturing setting. The facility experiences hot conditions in the summer and cooler temperatures in the winter. All proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is required on the manufacturing floor, including steel-toed boots, eyewear, and ear plugs. Work hours are on the first shift from 7 AM to 4 PM, with approximately 200 people employed at the plant.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Georgetown, KY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $36.06/hr.
