    Position Description

    The Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Public Health Administrator 1 supports the implementation of the Healthy Start workplan and MCAH’s mission to reduce maternal and infant mortality in Nashville/Davidson County. Working in partnership with internal teams and external partners, the Administrator develops, supports, leads, trains, and carries out activities that are identified by MCAH’s division and Nashville Maternal Child Health (MCH) Collective.

     

    This position focuses on the implementation of activities necessary to convene, support, and evaluate the MCH Collective and establish and maintain critical maternal-child health services focused on improving maternal, child, and infant health outcomes. The Administrator works under the direction of the MCAH Division Director and supports the MCAH Division in improving the health and well-being of families across Davidson County.

    Typical Duties

    + Coordinate and Convene MCH Collective

    + Convenes the MCH Collective stakeholder group, supporting three monthly workgroup meetings and quarterly full group meetings.

    + Facilitates the development, execution, and evaluation of the city’s perinatal systems change action plan and coordinates integration with the Community Health Improvement Plan/Community Health Assessment.

    + Develop mechanisms to monitor plan progress.

    + Provides technical assistance and capacity building to stakeholders to gain or maintain progress.

    + Works collaboratively with the Bureau of Epidemiology, Strategic Performance, Policy Evaluation (ESPPE) to evaluate outcomes of actions to improve perinatal health in Davidson County.

    + Maintain Critical Maternal Child Health Services

    + Maintains the MCAH services referral hub, such as Central Referral.

    + Processes referrals received through the Central Referral System.

    + Regularly monitors indicators and tracks changes over time in the performance management system.

    + Recommends performance improvement strategies; leads appropriate improvements/support improvements as identified.

    + Increase and Maintain Partnerships and Stakeholder Relationships

    + Tracks and maintains MCH Collective roster.

    + Identifies and contacts potential internal partners and external organizations focused on improving maternal and infant health outcomes.

    + Fosters collaboration and optimal effectiveness by cross-training other health department staff on maternal-child health-focused prevention and intervention programs and services.

    + Leads Quality Improvement efforts in the MCAH Division

    + Collects and analyzes data to identify problems and track progress.

    + Communicates results and progress to internal partners and external stakeholders.

    + Perform Other Duties as Assigned

    + Contributes to the overall mission of the Metro Public Health Department and the Bureau of Population Health.

    + Participate in departmental and community events, including occasional evenings or weekends as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Graduation from an accredited (4) four-year college or university and one (1) year of responsible, full-time employment in public administration, business administration, public health administration, public health sanitation, public health nursing, public health education, or other appropriate field

     

    or

     

    One (1) year of graduate study in public health administration, public administration, or health education may be substituted for one (1) year of experience

    or

    A minimum of seven (7) years of increasingly responsible experience in the areas of public health administration, public administration, public health sanitation, or business

     

    Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    + Master’s degree with 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role/field.

    + Reliable transportation to travel locally for meetings and public health events

    + Two (2) years of progressively responsible full-time paid employment in the related field are required.
