    THE JOB:

The County Health Officer will serve as the medical lead for public health and a key member of the department’s executive team, reporting administratively to the Director of Health Services, working directly with the Board of Supervisors, and collaborating closely with the County Executive Officer. Working alongside the Director of Nursing, the Disaster Services Nurse responsible for emergency preparedness, and two Deputy Health Officers, the CHO issues health guidance, coordinates public health response efforts, advises policymakers, monitors emerging trends, and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations. The CHO also provides medical oversight for essential programs, including Juvenile Hall, where they may consult on clinical matters and support the nursing and medical team. The CHO also plays a central role in advancing countywide coordination and partnerships across clinics, hospitals, tribal health organizations, and Behavioral Health. This includes supporting aligned strategies to improve access to care, expanding the Healthcare Coalition, guiding organizations through emerging public health issues, and contributing to accreditation, quality improvement, and internal system improvements. The CHO provides critical medical guidance to nursing and program teams and translates complex scientific information into practical, community-focused recommendations for leadership, staff, and the public.
