    Summary This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Clinical Standards and Quality, iQuality Improvement and Innovation Group (IQIIG). As a Data Scientist, GS-1560-13, you will leads cross-functional teams composed of professionals skilled in policy analysis, information technology, data engineering, and project management disciplines, in order to develop data-driven solutions. Responsibilities Conduct data science research with statistical and analytical tools used to analyze complex sets of data. Provide technical advice in the development and analysis of pilot initiatives and applications, and makes recommendations to management on the use of such technology. Serve as a Business Function Lead (BFL), Subject-Matter Expert (SME), or Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) on contracts, task orders, or other projects related to data science issues or initiatives. Act as a technical liaison with other CMS offices, the Department of Health and Human Services, and private-sector organizations on relevant issues related to data science. In order to qualify for the GS-13, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: 1. Conduct research utilizing statistical, analytical and database coding tools (i.e SAS, R, SPSS) that compute data to generate reports; 2. Evaluate data identifying discrepancies and patterns that lead to recommendations for improved designs; and 3. Serve as an technical advisor by providing insight, assistants, and advice to stakeholders through written and oral communication. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-in-Grade: To be eligible, current Federal employees must have served at least 52 weeks (one year) at the next lower grade level from the position/grade level(s) to which they are applying. Education Education Requirement: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, all candidates must have the following educational requirements: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
