Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

+ Knowledge of: State laws regarding vehicle inspections; shop equipment safety; vehicle repair procedures; and basic math.

+ Skill in: Interacting courteously with others.

+ Ability to: Understand written instructions; read and interpret technical manuals; communicate effectively; and use basic auto mechanic tools and shop equipment.

+ Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent

+ Experience working with automotive mechanic tools and diagnostic equipment

+ Experience tracking maintenance work using a computer program

Preferred Qualifications

+ Technical/Vocational training ( ASE certifications)

+ Golf Cart/Utilities Vehicle diagnosis and repair

+ Associate’s degree in automotive related field

Job Description

The Auto Mechanic is responsible for basic vehicle maintenance and repair.

Job Duties

+ Provides automotive diagnostics, repair, and routine maintenance.

+ Handles work-order documentation, parts requisitioning, and inventory duties.

+ Controls the maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of various automotive components.

+ Performs skilled work such as engine performance diagnosis, repair, and tune-ups; vehicle preventive maintenance servicing; and various other repairs and maintenance of all University vehicles and equipment.

+ Performs vehicle state inspections.

+ Performs other related duties as assigned.

Additional Information to Applicants

Must obtain a State of Texas Vehicle Safety Inspector License within 120 days from date of hire.
