    Responsibilities

    Performs phlebotomy and routine laboratory procedures. Supports clinical operations through accurate specimen collection, safe handling, and timely communication of results.

     

    + Perform phlebotomy and specimen processing using proper patient identification, labeling, and collection standards.

    + Assist with complex phlebotomy situations and maintain professional patient and staff interactions.

    + Obtain basic vital signs after completing required competency (no immunizations, medication dispensing, or procedure assistance).

    + Accurately document clinical and laboratory information in the electronic health record.

    + Conduct quality control, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and proficiency testing as required.

    + Apply knowledge of specialty procedures and test values to determine appropriate next steps within scope.

    Qualifications

    + High school diploma or equivalent (required in complex CLIA labs).

    + If CMA - Valid and current certification in the state of Iowa for Medical Assisting

    + Accredited program plus certification through: (AAMA, NCCT, AMT, NHA, NCMA, NAHP, AAH, ARMA or NHCA)

    + Phlebotomy experience or phlebotomy certification

    + Direct patient care or certification for MA, LPN, RN a plus!
