    Position Description

    Responsible for the Environmental Health outreach and engagement with regulated industries and establishing and maintaining relationships with internal and community partners; creating and implementing Environmental Health communications tools and resources; planning, implementing and evaluating environmental projects and programs; and, writing, managing, and monitoring selected grants and contracts.

     

    Work Location

     

    This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

     

    • Coordinate partnership activities with external Environmental Health stakeholders that help achieve project or program goals, as well as provide information to businesses regulated by the Health Department.

    • Coordinate activities with key internal departments, including Communications.

    • Plan for and facilitate meetings with internal and external partners for program planning, workshops, and community outreach, including ordering food and arranging speakers.

    • Make and sustain relationship connections within under-represented communities, including business associations, trade organizations, neighborhood organizations, and other community-based organizations.

    • Engage with regulated businesses in regulated industries to identify and implement process improvements for Environmental Health services by ethnic community and geographic location.

    • Create and implement effective communication tools and resources for the Environmental Health Division, such as listservs, newsletters, websites, email, flyers, and reference materials.

    • Develop outreach and educational programs and materials. Research, write, edit, and produce articles, newsletters, social media content, audio content, flyers, brochures, and web content to promote effective communication with various audiences, including businesses, residents, neighborhood and business groups, and elected officials.

    • Work with bilingual staff and translators to translate Environmental Health resource materials.

    • Communicate with Spanish-speaking businesses and community members to provide education, outreach, and support related to Environmental Health programs and compliance.

    • Develop and monitor Environmental Health Division communications plans.

    • Coordinate specific projects or programs and plan for or assist other staff in implementing additional programs, as needed, that improve health or reduce risks to Minneapolis residents.

    • Evaluate Environmental Health programs and services to make them more accessible, equitable, and useful for under-represented communities.

    • Assist in planning and implementing Environmental Health policy changes.

    • Assist in division training.

    • Assist in the development of grant proposals in response to identified opportunities to work toward departmental environmental goals.

    • Develop, manage, and monitor contracts for delivery of service.

    • Participate in Public Health Emergency Preparedness planning, training, and response, as needed or as assigned by the department.

    Required Qualifications

    Minimum Education

    Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Communications, or a closely Related Field or equivalent.

    Minimum Experience

    Two years of relevant experience in community engagement work with diverse populations, and communications work including writing content for different mediums and audiences.

    Language

    Written and spoken fluency in English and one or more languages spoken by the City's community populations. Spanish is required.

     

    Equivalency

     

    In lieu of a 4-year degree, an Associate’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience; or 4 years of relevant experience to meet the education requirements.

     

    Selection Process

     

    The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.

    The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title.     Eligible List Statement

     

    The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire one month after it has been established.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

     

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills.

    • Proficiency in verbal and written communication in both English and Spanish.

    • Good knowledge of modern office software for creating reports, spreadsheets, media, and presentations.

    • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and maintain effective working relationships with people from diverse cultural, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.

    • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, meet frequent deadlines, and work in a team environment.

    • Good customer service skills and the ability to solve problems and resolve conflict.

    • Detail-oriented with good organizational skills.

    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

    • Knowledge of contract management, grant writing, policy development, and implementation desirable.

    • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating projects and programs desirable.
