Jr Network Engineer
Our client, a leading academic and research institution in Central Massachusetts, is seeking a curious and self-directed Jr Network Engineer to assist in basic day-to-day tasks, routine projects and network maintenance.
Rate: $25-30/hr., depending on experience
6 month contract with potential to extend or go permanent
Essential Functions:
Perform Network Engineering support including, but not limited to:
+ Provide escalation support and guidance to Service Desk in troubleshooting issues
+ Deploy, configure and maintain network hardware including switches, routers, wireless access points, and other
+ Provide 24/7 connectivity for users of the data network including adds/moves/changes and wireless connectivity
Maintain internal Network Documentation platform including:
+ Keeping IP Address Management (IPAM) system data current
+ Update and Audit Patch Management physical campus data
+ Inventory and Asset updates as equipment is deployed
Respond to events as reported by ITS Monitoring Platform including but not limited to:
+ Network outage incidents
+ Predictive UPS maintenance
+ Clean and Service fiber optic links when errors exceed thresholds
Maintain physical infrastructure including:
+ Support physical plant additions and renovations as they relate to the fiber optic, voice, and data infrastructure
+ Work with wiring vendors to scope, quote and implement various cabling projects
+ Investigate with staff and faculty on non-typical requirements satellite internet for research grants, etc
Additional duties may be required as circumstances and events dictate.
Requirements:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field, or 2-3 years professional experience with vendor certifications in similar or related work.
+ Experience with network hardware, cabling, and network management software including experience in network
+ troubleshooting.
+ Experience with Ethernet, Wireless standards, and TCP/IP networking.
+ Experience with Juniper Networks and Aruba Networks equipment is preferable.
+ Experience with Linux systems for executing provided tools and scripts.
+ Ability to communicate clearly with all network users
