Overview:
The SMT Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment used in the assembly of printed circuit boards (PCBs). This role ensures high‑quality electronic assemblies by following established processes, performing inspections, and maintaining accurate production records.
Key Responsibilities:
SMT Machine Operation
+ Set up and operate SMT equipment such as pick‑and‑place machines, stencil printers, and reflow ovens.
+ Load feeders, verify component values, and ensure proper machine configuration for each production run.
+ Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain optimal throughput and quality.
Quality Control & Inspection
+ Perform visual inspection of PCBs for solder defects, component alignment, polarity, and overall workmanship.
+ Use AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) systems when required.
+ Identify and correct common SMT defects such as tombstoning, bridging, and insufficient solder.
Process & Documentation
+ Follow work instructions, assembly drawings, and manufacturing process guidelines.
+ Maintain accurate production logs, machine setup sheets, and quality records.
+ Report process issues, equipment malfunctions, or material shortages to supervisors or engineering staff.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
+ Perform routine preventive maintenance on SMT equipment.
+ Troubleshoot basic machine errors, feeder issues, and component placement problems.
+ Assist technicians or engineers with more complex repairs or process improvements.
Qualifications
+ Experience operating SMT equipment in an electronics manufacturing environment.
+ Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.
+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
+ Basic understanding of electronic components and PCB assembly processes.
+ Ability to lift and handle reels, trays, and production materials as required.
Preferred Skills
+ Experience with AOI, X‑ray inspection, or rework tools.
+ Familiarity with IPC‑A‑610 standards.
+ Knowledge of ESD handling procedures.
+ Comfort working in a fast‑paced, high‑mix/low‑volume production environment.
Compensation & Schedule
+ **Pay Range:** $25–$35 per hour, based on experience.
+ **Shift:** First shift, **7:00 AM – 4:30 PM.**

This is a Contract position based out of Sarasota, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
