Required Qualifications** (as evidenced by an attached resume) **:
Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in hand by January 1st, 2026. Experience with organic compound characterization before and after temperature fluctuations. Experience with analytical equipment required to do these analyses (e.g., Orbitrap Mass Spec, Quadrupole Mass Spec, 1H-NMR, RAMAN spectrometer.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with XRD and SEM.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/somas/) under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Roy Price (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/somas/people/\_profiles/roy-price.php) . The selected candidate will evaluate organic compound concentration and character in sediments before and after wet-dry/freeze-thaw cycling in a Mars Environmental Climate Simulator (MECS), a type of Mars chamber. Successful candidates will have a proven record of high-level research and laboratory/experiment experience, as well as a solid record of publications and conference presentations.
Postdoctoral Associate duties will include:
• Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct experiments to determine organic compound concentration and character before and after exposure in Mars chamber.
• Conduct thermodynamic calculations using obtained data to evaluate habitability of early Mars.
• Write up and publish results in a peer-reviewed journal.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
