Health Unit Coordinator

Be the welcoming face and central communication hub of the Surgical Family Lounge. This role is essential in creating a positive experience for patients and families while supporting seamless communication, patient flow, and coordination of tests and procedures.
What You'll Do
+ Welcome and support patients and families by greeting visitors, physicians, and staff with professionalism, warmth, and compassion in the Surgical Family Lounge.
+ Serve as the communication hub for the unit by answering phones, managing pages, faxes, and mail, and ensuring timely, accurate information flow.
+ Support patient flow and coordination by scheduling tests, procedures, and transports; updating Bedboard; and communicating changes to the care team.
+ Maintain accurate patient records including charts, identification labels, physician orders, and unit logs in accordance with hospital policies.
+ Utilize hospital systems such as eRecord, MARS, Medipac, Bedboard, and Teletracking to support daily operations.
+ Ensure unit readiness by maintaining par levels of supplies and forms, managing downtime folders, monitoring the Surgical Family Lounge, and completing unit audits as assigned.
+ Promote a calm, healing environment by initiating quiet time and monitoring noise levels.
+ Reconcile charges as needed, including custom braces and CRRT.
+ Maintain office and unit equipment, submitting and following up on repair requests as needed.
+ Uphold patient privacy and safety, strictly adhering to HIPAA, safety standards, and infection prevention policies.
+ Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams while building respectful, professional relationships.
+ Contribute to continuous improvement by supporting departmental changes, participating in projects or committees, and viewing challenges as opportunities.
+ Support team development by serving as a resource and preceptor for new staff and participating in ongoing learning and self-review.
Schedule
This position works a rotating schedule to support surgical operations:
+ 4:30 AM - 1:00 PM
+ 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM
+ 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM

+ High school diploma or equivalent experience.
+ Knowledge of medical terminology and computer applications.
+ Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
+ Completion of a Certified Health Unit Secretary course preferred.
+ In the course of duties may be asked to distribute medications to the nurse at the bedside.
+ Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
