    Posting Summary

The Fleming Museum of Art at the University of Vermont invites applications for a Curator of Exhibitions and Collections who is eager to join a collaborative, values-driven institution at an exciting moment of growth and reimagining. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape how a globally significant collection of more than 25,000 objects is cared for, interpreted, and activated in service of teaching, research, and public engagement.

Reporting to the Museum’s Executive Director, the curator will play a central role in advancing the Fleming’s mission to boldly center art in learning and conversation. Working across disciplines and in close partnership with students, faculty, artists, and community collaborators, the curator will develop compelling exhibitions and gallery installations that invite inquiry, spark dialogue, and connect meaningfully to UVM’s academic priorities. Equally central to the role is thoughtful stewardship of the collection, including research, interpretation, and participation in acquisitions, deaccessions, and repatriation efforts grounded in shared values and professional best practices.

We seek a curator who is intellectually curious, imaginative, and deeply collaborative – someone energized by the possibilities of a campus museum and committed to the University of Vermont’s Our Common Ground values. This is an opportunity to help shape a museum that is inclusive, interdisciplinary, and alive with ideas.
