    Summary You will serve as a Lead Firefighter (BLS/Hazmat Tech) of COMMANDER NAVY REGION HAWAII. A post allowance amount, (otherwise known as: COLA), of 8.64% will be added to the stated salary. Post allowance is subject to change at any time. For additional information, please refer to the Joint Travel Regulations (JTR), Chapter 5 Part B. Responsibilities You will Lead a crew of three or more firefighters assigned to staff a pumper, aerial ladder truck, or airport rescue fire fighting (ARFF) vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations. You will Study field maps to become familiar with ground areas, specific locations, etc. You will ensure that workload is balanced at the fire/rescue scene or in the station. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Driving and operating firefighting vehicles and associated equipment of significant complexity; Interpreting physical configuration of a variety of large or complex aircraft/structures and the operational characteristics of associated systems and mechanisms; Interpreting design, construction, utilization, and contents of aircraft/structures; Interpreting firefighting techniques for fire hazards peculiar to airfields, such as aircraft, special weapons, hazardous materials, etc.; Using Basic Life Support Functions and techniques to perform emergency procedures that are noninvasive in nature; Interpreting facility layouts (including research and/or industrial complexes) and the location and operation of alarm/suppression control panels, hydrants, utility shutoffs, and suppression systems (including special extinguishing agents and systems); Using hydraulic principles as they pertain to water flow, water pressure, water levels, line (friction) losses, etc.; Using firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, foam generators, boom and ground sweep nozzles, and similar fire extinguishing equipment), techniques, and procedures; determining route, approach, and position of vehicle in relation to the fire scene. Certifications: This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, Firefighter II, Apparatus Driver-Operator for Pumper, Airport Rescue Firefighting, HAZMAT Technician Level, National Registry Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Life Support. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.
