    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Senior Section Supervisor – Anatomic Pathology is responsible for overseeing operations across two campuses, ensuring the efficient and high-quality delivery of histology and pathology services. This role provides leadership and direction to histotechnologists, histology technicians, pathology assistants, grossing technologists, and pathology secretarial staff. The supervisor ensures compliance with regulatory standards, optimizes workflow, and supports the mission of the health system by maintaining excellence in patient care and laboratory services.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Direct daily operations of histology, pathology, secretarial functions, send-out services, and grossing activities across two campuses.

    + Ensure timely and accurate specimen processing, grossing, and reporting.

    + Coordinate inter-campus workflow to maximize efficiency and resource utilization.

    + Supervise and mentor histotechnologists, histology technicians, pathology assistants, and grossing technologists.

    + Provide ongoing training, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.

    + Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

    + Ensure adherence to CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements.

    + Maintain and monitor quality control procedures, proficiency testing, and documentation.

    + Implement corrective actions and process improvements as needed.

    + Oversee scheduling, staffing, and workload distribution across both campuses.

    + Collaborate with pathology secretarial staff to ensure accurate transcription, reporting, and communication of pathology results.

    + Manage send-out processes, including vendor coordination and tracking.

    + Lead insourcing of testing to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

    + Identify and evaluate vendors; make recommendations for contracts and service agreements.

    + Validate new reagents, test platforms, and laboratory information system updates.

    + Partner with leadership to assess emerging technologies and implement best practices.

    + Work closely with the Laboratory Medical Director (Pathologist) to support clinical and diagnostic needs.

    + Partner with the System Director to align departmental goals with organizational strategy.

    + Serve as a liaison between laboratory staff, clinicians, and administrative leadership.

    EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:

    Required:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field required; advanced degree preferred.

    + Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histotechnician (HT) by ASCP.

    + Minimum 5 years of experience in histology or anatomic pathology, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

    + Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory regulations, quality assurance, and safety standards.

    + Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
