Job Skills / Requirements
Pay Rate: $15.50/hr
Weekly hours: Part-Time, 20 hours each week scheduled.
Schedule:This role operates on a rotating bi-weekly schedule: working one week, Monday through Friday, followed by the next week off.
SUMMARY:
This position performs mail processing and sorting services at the GSA Mail Center. The Mail Sorter is responsible for accurately sorting, preparing, metering, and documenting incoming and outgoing mail in compliance with U.S. Postal Service regulations and Wake County procedures. This role supports daily courier operations and ensures timely and accurate distribution of mail to County departments and partner agencies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Performs all assigned duties in a professional manner in order to reflect the highest integrity of the Company and Wake County.
+ Processes and sorts mail during designated times after couriers return to the GSA Mail Center.
+ Sorts incoming U.S. Mail from the Post Office and interoffice mail delivered by couriers into designated sort bins assigned to each department.
+ Separates, prepares, and meters outgoing mail with the proper postage in accordance with all USPS regulations.
+ Sorts, prepares, and documents Certified Mail, including generating required reports and maintaining accurate records.
+ Sorts and prepares mail and accompanying documentation for the State Courier.
+ Performs internal mail delivery and pickup within the GSA building, including interoffice mail and mail or packages requiring metered postage.
+ Ensures accuracy, confidentiality, and secure handling of all mail, including sensitive and time-sensitive materials.
+ Maintains organized workstations, mail bins, and processing areas to support efficient mail flow.
+ Reports discrepancies, damaged mail, postage issues, or operational concerns to a supervisor promptly.
+ Reports to work on time and dressed in company uniform, including employee badge, as required.
+ Follows all company policies including safety procedures, confidentiality requirements, and applicable federal, state, and County regulations.
+ Works a flexible schedule and provides additional support when required by the Contract Administrator.
+ Completes additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
+ High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma is preferred.
+ Six months of related experience is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE:
+ Able to understand written and verbal instructions in English.
+ Able to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions and procedures.
+ Working knowledge of U.S. Postal Service regulations and mailing processes preferred.
+ Ability to maintain accuracy while handling high volumes of mail.
+ Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

+ Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50lbs.
+ Carrying up to 30 lbs.
