Are you a dynamic healthcare professional ready to take on a leadership role in a fast-paced hospital environment? UPMC Presbyterian is seeking a Full-Time, Administrator on Duty to join our team! This position offers a unique opportunity to support hospital operations and patient care coordination across all units.
+ As an Administrator on Duty, you will play a critical role in ensuring smooth hospital operations by coordinating patient admissions, discharges, and transfers. You'll provide interim leadership, support staff, and serve as a key resource during off-hours, holidays, and weekends.
+ Full time, rotating
+ Primarily 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, with rotation to 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM
+ Includes holiday and weekend coverage
Purpose:
Accountable for proactively coordinating the activities of admission, discharge and transfer of patients thereby supporting throughput in the facility. Provides direction to department leaders to ensure safe levels of staffing while maintaining efficient hospital throughput. Serves as a resource for all staff and is able to apply competent knowledge and skills to achieve quality outcomes. Provides an interim leadership including but not limited to crisis management intervention as a representative of hospital administration. Channels pertinent patient/employee/department information to appropriate internal and external sources.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Support:
Act as a representative of hospital administration, providing guidance and support to staff, patients, and families. Address and resolve operational issues and ensure safe staffing levels.
+ Patient Flow & Throughput:Oversee patient placement and collaborate with clinical teams to ensure efficient use of hospital resources and timely transitions of care.
+ Crisis Management:Respond to urgent situations with sound judgment and coordinate with appropriate departments such as Risk Management, Legal, and Patient Relations.
+ Mentorship & Development:Serve as a mentor and preceptor to nursing staff and students. Promote continuous learning and professional development.
+ Evidence-Based Practice:Utilize research and data to drive process improvements and enhance patient care outcomes.
+ Proven leadership experience in a healthcare setting
+ Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
+ Ability to manage complex situations with professionalism and poise
+ Commitment to patient-centered care and staff support
BS/BSN required. If BS degree not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required. CNL/MSN preferred. Minimum of 3 years clinical experience required with relevant leadership experience preferred. Must maintain a solid/strong performer rating on annual performance review. Registered Nurse.

+ Masters preferred
+ If no Masters/DNP, must hold an approved national certification or Wolf Learning Academy certification.
+ Bachelors or higher must be in nursing.
+ Three years of experience with a minimum of one year of leadership experience such as the Clinician role or equivalent.
+ Must maintain a solid/strong performer rating on annual performance reviewLicensure, Certifications, and Clearances:ACLS preferred. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
+ Registered Nurse (RN)
+ Act 34
*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
