    The Desai Sethi Urology Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Sr. Research Associate 3, SOM to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Sr. Research Associate 3 will play a key role in designing, executing, and analyzing mouse-based experiments and pre-clinical research studies aimed at elucidating mechanisms of cancer biology with relevance to genitourinary cancer.

     

    The overarching goal of the institute’s research program is to define the biochemical, metabolic, and molecular drivers of cancer progression and therapy resistance in order to identify new therapeutic strategies. This position will focus heavily on in vivo animal models, translational cancer research, and pre-clinical therapeutic evaluation, supporting the rapid translation of laboratory discoveries toward clinical application.     + Designs, evaluates, and implements methods and protocols for assigned research projects.

    + Recommends purchase of new equipment for research projects.

    + Writes scientific articles and manuscripts for publication and presentation.

    + Oversees and ensures the safe handling of radioactive and hazardous materials.

    + Prepares analytical reports relative to research data.

    + Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

    CORE QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    + M.S. in biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology or another relevant field required.

    + Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.

    Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

    + Has the appropriate expertise in discovery of molecular, biochemical or chemical mechanisms; and is highly driven.

    + Outstanding verbal and communication skills are required.

    + Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

    + Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

    + Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

    DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

    Department Specific Functions

     

    The laboratory focuses on mechanistic discovery of the metabolic and molecular pathways driving androgen synthesis, androgen receptor signaling, and resistance to hormonal therapies. A major emphasis of the lab is the use of advanced mouse models and pre-clinical systems to study cancer progression, endocrine regulation, and therapeutic vulnerabilities.

    Specific areas include:

    + Mouse models of advanced prostate for translational studies

    + Pre-clinical evaluation of drug candidates and therapeutic strategies

    + Metabolic and genetic mechanisms underlying hormone therapy resistance

    + Identification and validation of therapeutic targets using in vivo systems

    + Translational studies bridging laboratory discovery to clinical trials

     

    This position is ideal for an individual with a strong interest in animal-based translational research and pre-clinical drug development, as rapid movement from mechanistic discovery to therapeutic testing is a central goal of the laboratory.
