    Director of Recreation Job Summary

    Glengariff Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center is seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Recreation to lead and oversee our Therapeutic Recreation Department. This leadership role is responsible for planning, developing, and directing engaging recreational programs that enhance the physical, emotional, and psychosocial well-being of our residents.

     

    The ideal candidate is creative, organized, and passionate about improving quality of life through meaningful activities while ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations.

    Director of Recreation Key Responsibilities

    + Plan, develop, and implement a comprehensive recreation program tailored to resident needs and interests

    + Supervise, train, and evaluate recreation staff and activity assistants

    + Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and facility regulations related to recreation services

    + Coordinate group and individual activities that promote socialization, cognitive stimulation, and physical engagement

    + Complete and maintain accurate documentation, assessments, care plans, and progress notes

    + Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support resident-centered care

    + Organize special events, outings, and holiday programming

    + Manage departmental scheduling, supplies, and budget as assigned

    + Promote resident rights, dignity, and quality of life at all times

    Director of Recreation Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field preferred

    + Certification as a CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) preferred but not required

    + Previous experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting strongly preferred

    + Supervisory or leadership experience required

    + Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

    + Knowledge of state and federal long-term care regulations
