Overview
Bowhead is seeking an On-Call Maintenance Technician to support the maintenance, repair, adjustment, and relocation of Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS) and related sensor technologies installed along the U.S. border.
This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and supporting the operational effectiveness of sensor systems—including fiber-optic PIDS, cameras, motion detectors, radar, and other surveillance technologies—ensuring they remain reliable and mission-ready.
The ideal candidate is a retired U.S. Border Patrol agent or similar professional with prior Sensor Team, Tech Ops, or operational surveillance experience, who understands how terrain, traffic patterns, and adversary behavior impact sensor performance.
Technicians must be available for rapid, on-call deployment to remote sites within their designated area of responsibility.
Responsibilities
• Perform on-site troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of sensor systems including: Fiber-optic PIDS, Cameras, Motion detection systems, and Radar and other surveillance technologies
• Conduct preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure optimal system performance
• Support the relocation, reconfiguration, and adjustment of PIDS based on operational requirements, environmental changes, and false alarm trends
• Terrain and line-of-sight considerations
• Collaborate with field teams and remotely based technical support staff to resolve complex issues
• Validate system performance following repairs or relocations
• Document all maintenance and repair activities in accordance with company and customer reporting standards
• Maintain compliance with all safety, security, and environmental protocols
• Maintain proper inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment required for repairs
• Provide practical recommendations for system improvements and upgrades to enhance reliability and effectiveness
• Respond promptly to on-call service requests, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Associate degree in electronics, electrical engineering, or a related technical field
OR equivalent military, federal law enforcement, or professional experience
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in sensor or electronic system maintenance and repair
• Proficiency diagnosing and repairing hardware, software, and network-related sensor issues
• Familiarity with surveillance systems, including cameras, radar, and motion detection technologies
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, wiring, and troubleshooting techniques
• Willingness and ability to work outdoors in remote and rugged environments
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and climb ladders or work at heights as required
• Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
Preferred Qualifications
• Retired U.S. Border Patrol Agent or similar operational background
• Prior experience with Sensor Teams, Tech Ops, and border surveillance or security operations
• Experience supporting or maintaining PIDS or fiber-optic detection systems
• Existing Public Trust clearance (highly preferred)
• Experience working on similar systems in government, military, or border security environments
• Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, or similar
• Knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems or fiber-optic technology

Physical Demands:
• This role requires frequent travel to remote locations, often on short notice. Work environments may include exposure to extreme weather conditions, rugged terrain, and other environmental challenges. Strict adherence to safety procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
