**Job Title:** Billing Services Representative
**Department:** PMC Penn Center for Primary Care
**Location:** Penn Presbyterian Medical Center- 51 N 39th St
**Hours:** Mon-Fri office hours
**Summary:** Responsible for a broad range of complex billing activities including data entry, reconciliation of accounts, completing log sheets, accounts receivable functions, billing procedures and accurate record maintenance. Review and take action upon a variety of system-generated status and exception reports related to billing activity, payments, and collections. Train as back-up coverage for other billing areas within the department.
Responsibilities:
+ Maintains up to date knowledge of insurance requirements pertinent to patient services and billing procedures
+ Updates information in APM, including, but not limited to: demographic and insurance, referral, and pre-auth information according to UPHS protocol.
+ Understands how scheduling, appointment generation effects the charge process.
+ Keeps manager aware of potential issues / problems as they arise.
+ Must be able to cover duties of PSR when required and FSR.
+ Comprehends insurance and registration information as it relates to various plans and benefits.
+ Appropriately enters demographic and insurance information into APM.
+ Understands the revenue cycle, including, but not limited to edits, rejections, and department specific billing issues.
+ Posts charges / payments accurately and timely.
+ Prints and works the missing charge report. Alerts manager to issues.
+ Proactively identifies and works practice edits.
+ Communicates front end issues which may be impacting the revenue process to management.
+ Understands the specifics of in-patient / out-patient billing and procedural coding.
+ Understands and works the charge work queue in accordance with CPUP protocol.
+ Utilizes billing reports to maximize revenue opportunities in the department.
+ Serves as in-house expert for common department coding issues.
+ Covers for Financial Track PSR & FSR as needed.
+ Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
+ Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Education and Experience:
+ H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
+ And 3+ years Financial-Customer Service experience (Required)
