    Open to the general public, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-Tech), Local 1547 members, and any current Municipal Employees.

     

    This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-Tech), Local 1547, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

     

    DEPARTMENT: Public Transportation

     

    HOURS OF WORK: Shifts vary; Monday to Sunday

     

    To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

     

    Example of Duties

     

    Performs intermediate repairs, parts replacement, and assists Equipment Techs and Lead Techs with performance of complex repairs on a variety of platforms including diesel bus, heavy-duty gasoline, and light-duty support vehicles, as well as conduct independent inspection and repair. Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance deemed critical to preserving the operational and/or safety integrity of the Public Transportation Department buses, support vehicles and equipment. Services brakes, suspension, electrical, and drive system components; Ensures work is thorough and complete with quality and expediency; responds to service calls in the field during all types of weather to diagnose and/or recover vehicles; utilizes maintenance management software to document work accomplished, and a variety of hand and power tools to complete tasks; must provide own standard tools of the trade; must establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and others to promote a safe, clean, and harmonious work environment. Cleans and maintains shop work areas. Must maintain regular time and attendance standards. Performs other duties assigned.

     

    Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

     

    High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program and two (2) years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.

    OR

    High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and three (3) years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.

    Must possess the following:

    + At time of application - Valid Driver's License

    + At time of hire - Valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction. Applicants with a Restriction of "N-No Class A and B Passenger Vehicle" and Restriction of "L-Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only" are not eligible

    + At time of application - Valid Driver's License

    + At time of hire - Valid State of Alaska Driver's License & State of Alaska Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP)

    + Within 120 days – must obtain a valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction. Applicants with a Restriction of "N-No Class A and B Passenger Vehicle" and Restriction of "L-Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only" are not eligible

    Additional Important Information

     

    Preference will be given to current Municipality of Anchorage employees. Municipality of Anchorage employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-Municipality of Anchorage applicants.

    If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

     

    If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's State of Alaska driver's license & State of Alaska Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) or State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction; and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant.

    As a condition of employment, the person selected for the position will be required to take a preemployment drug screening prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice.

     

    If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the satisfactory review and completion of the Previous Employer Alcohol & Drug Test Information Forms. Names, addresses, and phone numbers for positions that required Department of Transportation testing for the last two years will be required in compliance with § 40.25 and § 382.405(f) and (h).

     

    All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

    Military Service Interview Preference:

    Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

     

    Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
