Position Summary...
The Platform Stability organization protects the integrity of Walmart’s first true ecosystem platform, Spark Driver—where customers, Walmart associates, and gig-drivers interact across interconnected systems, workflows, and data layers.
This ecosystem is powerful—but vulnerable. Multiple engineering teams ship changes daily across dozens of microservices. When even one team makes a change without understanding downstream impacts, the results are immediate:
Our ecosystem has recurring stability issues caused by backend and cross-system changes that were not fully understood before release. These uncoordinated updates can lead to unexpectant platform behavior and possible int Lo erruptions to core driver workflow. Many defects later discovered in production stemmed from these gaps in governance.
The Platform Stability team exists to prevent this. We co-create governance, guardrails, early-warning systems, and cross-system accountability with our engineering and product partners that keep the platform healthy for all user groups.
This new role—the Sr. Manager of Tech Governance & Platform Change Management—is a foundational hire to mature our approach to ecosystem risk, cross-system coordination, and engineering partnership
What you'll do...
+ Build and lead a cross-system tech governance framework for backend, API, and infrastructure changes, focusing on risk management and engineering trust.
+ Implement early-warning systems for hidden changes and strengthen automated alerts for potential issues.
+ Support backend simplification, API consolidation, and risk reduction initiatives.
+ Ensure release readiness with clear runbooks, impact mapping, and monitoring plans; align with release and UAT teams.
+ Drive shared stability KPIs, transparent reporting, and governance rituals that accelerate engineering velocity.
+ Promote platform stability thinking and educate teams on risk, dependency management, and defect prevention.
What You’ll Bring:
+ 7–10+ years in technical program management, release/change management, or platform operations in complex environments.
+ Experience with backend/API/service-layer changes and DevOps/CI-CD workflows.
+ Strong leadership, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills.
+ Deep knowledge of change management, risk modeling, DORA metrics, and API governance.
+ Ability to translate technical risks into business impact and brief executive leaders.
