    Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST, Position Description Number T5525000 and is part of the PA 171st Air Refueling Wing, National Guard. 1 or more Position(s) may be hired against this Announcement. Responsibilities As a Fire Protection Specialist, GS-0081-08, you will direct, plan, and organize Fire Emergency Services activities. Represent the Fire Protection program with a variety of unit and functional area organizations. Manage the Hazard Assessment Inspection Program, Public Fire Prevention and Education Program, Fire Protection Engineering, and Extinguisher Maintenance Program. Develop and maintain a variety of documentation such as fire prevention inspection schedules and facilities jackets on assigned facilities. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This is a Title 5 Excepted Service position in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. AREA OF CONSIDERATION: Bargaining Position AOC A: NG employees at the 171st ARW AOC B: NG employees in the 171st Air Refueling Wing (This includes 258th ATCS, 146 Weather Flight, 146 ARS, and 147 ARS) AOC C: NG Employees of the Pennsylvania National Guard AOC D: All Service Members of the Pennsylvania National Guard AOC E: Federal Employees in an Agency outside of the Pennsylvania National Guard AOC F: U.S. Citizen Applicants Applicants who meet one of the DoD Priority Placement Program (PPP) categories below are eligible to apply with this preference. Supervisor for this position is Major Saccone Manpower # 00759402 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or military service that demonstrated the ability to follow directions and to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures and that otherwise demonstrates the ability to perform or learn to perform the duties of the position SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Application must indicate at least 1 year equivalent to at least the next lower grade. Experience in controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade. Experience in Rescue operations. Experience in detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards. Experience in the operation of fire communications equipment. Experience controlling hazardous materials incidents. Experience developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention. QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience, training, and education must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position to be filled. Education The following certificates are required for the position: DoD Firefighter Certified Fire Officer III DoD Firefighter Certified Fire Instructor III DoD Firefighter Certified Fire Inspector II DoD Firefighter Certified HAZMAT Incident Commander DoD Firefighter Certified Airport Fire Fighter You must provide these certifications in order to qualify for the position Additional Information If you are a male applicant who was born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency (Register | Selective Service System : Selective Service System (sss.gov)). In accordance with section 9902(h) of title 5, United States Code, annuitants reemployed in the Department of Defense shall receive full annuity and salary upon appointment. They shall not be eligible for retirement contributions, participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, or a supplemental or redetermined annuity for the employment period. Discontinued service retirement annuitants (i.e., retired under section 8336(d)(1) or 8414(b)(1)(A) of title 5 United States Code) appointed to the Department of Defense may elect to be subject to retirement provisions of the new appointment as appropriate.
