    Greenhouse Technician

    Job Description

    We are seeking a dedicated Greenhouse Technician to join our team in a long-term contract role. You will play a vital role in supporting laboratory analysis and plant care within our state-of-the-art greenhouse environment. This position offers the opportunity to work on a beautiful campus, with holiday and paid time off included.

    Responsibilities

    + Punch or cut and store small samples of plant tissue and deliver them for laboratory analysis while maintaining sample identity and proper storage conditions for thousands of samples.

    + Assist with experiments by collecting data and maintaining accurate records.

    + Provide daily care for greenhouse plants, including corn, soybean, wheat, and other crops.

    + Perform routine sanitation tasks in the greenhouse, such as discarding regulated material, destroying waste, and cleaning and sanitizing rooms.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + High school diploma or GED required.

    + Bachelor's degree in agriculture, horticulture, plant physiology, molecular biology, or a related field, or three or more years of related experience preferred.

    + Ability to pay close attention to detail and follow standard operating and safety protocols.

    + Excellent communication and organizational skills.

    + High degree of self-motivation and a positive attitude.

    + Ability to work well independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.

    + Basic computer skills preferred, including proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn internally-developed research software.

    + Ability to stand and sit for long periods and lift up to 30 lbs.

    + Tolerance for repetitive work in a warm, humid greenhouse environment with year-round pollen presence.

    Work Environment

    Work hours are from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, within a controlled greenhouse environment. The greenhouse is typically 80 degrees and humid in the winter and even warmer in the summer. You must be able to stand and sit for long periods and lift up to 30 lbs. The role involves repetitive work in a warm, humid greenhouse with pollen present throughout the year.

    This is a Contract position based out of Johnston, IA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
