Chris Preble is working with a Syracuse area client of his that is looking for a dedicated Financial Manager to help lead the company’s financial planning and performance analysis with a strong emphasis on data integrity, advanced Excel modeling, and hands-on analytical work. The Manager of FP& A will operate deep in the numbers—owning complex spreadsheets, building and maintaining financial models, and translating large data sets into clear insights that support senior leadership decision-making.

This role is best suited for a finance professional who is highly technical, Excel-heavy, and comfortable working directly with detailed data rather than relying solely on automated systems.

Key Responsibilities

+ Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes using detailed Excel-based models that serve as the foundation for financial decision-making

+ Build, maintain, and enhance complex Excel models that integrate data from multiple sources to evaluate performance, trends, and key drivers

+ Perform deep variance analysis and KPI tracking, using structured datasets to identify risks, opportunities, and performance gaps

+ Partner with cross-functional teams to assess the financial impact of operational changes, cost initiatives, and strategic investments, supported by data-driven analysis

+ Prepare executive-ready financial summaries, dashboards, and presentations derived from underlying Excel and data models

+ Support capital planning, scenario analysis, and sensitivity modeling using detailed financial assumptions

+ Continuously improve the structure, efficiency, and scalability of Excel models, reporting frameworks, and data workflows

+ Ensure accuracy, consistency, and traceability of financial data across all planning, forecasting, and reporting activities

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; advanced credentials (MBA, CPA) are a plus

5+ years of experience in FP& A, corporate finance, or a highly analytical finance role with significant hands-on modeling responsibility

Advanced Excel expertise, including complex formulas, pivot tables, Power Query, and structured financial models that house core planning data are a plus

Experience working with large datasets and reconciling data across systems and spreadsheets

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with high attention to detail
