    About this Job

     

    The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value, planning, developing and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings, preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails.

     

    This position is located in the State Parks Administrative Office in Baton Rouge, LA. The Office of State Parks is comprised of 21 State Parks, 15 State Historic Sites, along with other undeveloped property; and serves approximately 1.9 million visitors annually overall. The purpose of this position is to handle legal documents/needs for the agency that include, but are not limited to, Title 25 monitoring, polices & procedures, lawsuits, legal compliance, contract drafting, revenue manager, public records requests, etc.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    + Focuses in real-estate law, contract law, public bid law, and state procedures.

    + Collaborates with other lawyers, vendors, or government agencies to execute paperwork or complete transactions.

    + Provides legal counsel for Office of State Parks (OSP) and is responsible for providing technical legal direction, advice, assistance, consultation, and representation to the Assistant Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary for OSP.

    + Represents the department in litigations before trial and appellate courts and administrative tribunals, such as department land transactions, etc.

    + Prepares, assists in drafting, and reviews the preparation and negotiation of contracts, requests for proposal, and other legal documents, such as Title 38, Friends Group agreements, concession agreements, contracts, land agreements, etc.

    + Manages, directs, and supervises the Public-Private Partnership (P3) program. Maintain points of contact, prepare and review legal documents, monitor payments, etc.

    Position-Specific Details:

    Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, Detail to Special Duty, or Job Appointment

     

    Work Schedule: The State Parks Administrative Office is open Monday-Friday, typical office hours are 8am-4:30pm. This position will work full-time hours, 40 hour work week. Schedule includes paid time off for state holidays.

     

    Travel: Position requires occasional travel to state parks and historic sites, statewide, as needed for meetings, training, etc. When travel is required, a state vehicle is provided for employee use while on duty.

     

    Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Attorney 1, 2, 3, or 4. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled based on the qualifications of the selected applicant.
